Paper-thin Armor and Shields are your disadvantages.
Your Scout suit has a much larger Scan Radius than the other suits, letting you detect enemies much farther away. When you are walking, not sprinting, your Profile size is teeny-tiny. By training up Dropsuit Operations and Profile Dampening, you can make it even smaller. By fitting Profile Dampeners, you can get even smaller.
This means that if you move smartly, you can sometimes walk right through the heart of the enemy by using corners and cover to stay out of line-of-sight. It's hard, but doable.
Because you can run so fast and so long, Scouts also make good speed capture agents to quickly cover ground, place Drop Uplinks, and capture objectives before the enemy can.
This, this and this. I've only been playing for a week and I've already gotten the hang of what it means to be a Scout, though I prefer to use the Tactical Assault Rifle for the first life, then switch to the Shotgun in case anyone catches up to me. I like to lure them and blast them on the face with my boomstick. Also, after familiarizing myself with the maps on Skirmish, I've created strategies. Initial tactics that allow me to capture 1 or 2 nodes and deploy a Drop Uplink on a concealed area so my team can strike inside enemy lines and surprise them. "Shock and awe"....If only my team ever used the damn Uplinks! I swear I'm the only one who ever takes advantage of them. |

Drop uplinks only work for your squadmates - if you're the only guy in your squad, you're SOL.
...That explains a LOT.
