The issue seems to be with pilots who are unable or unwilling to take evasive maneuvers. It is hard to hit a fast and unpredictably moving target from range with a forge gun, so if a dropship is getting killed by forges it is probably a matter of the forge gunner's skill and some luck (On their part). As far as swarms go I agree to some extent that there should be some form of defense against the heat seeking missiles of doom. I am completely on board with you on Dropship Etiquette, blueberries are completely clueless when it comes to understanding that they need to GET OUT!!!! when there is an undefended objective. Also, to add to the blueberry havoc, is the stray blueberry who decides to commandeer at turret and use it ONLY, to fire at the MCC.... EJECT BUTTON PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! If I didnGÇÖt think the eject would be abused I would be requesting it immediately. My HAV's worst enemy is crazy blueberries and their MCC blood lust. Whats your Dropship fitting? We fit a convex shield booster , shield resistance amplifier, shield extender , power diognostic system and a light polerized armour reppair , for the guns my lads prefer the cyclic missile and stabalised blaster combo, with that set up we can go 2-4 games with out getting shot down , and we get right into the thick of ot , we pretty much use the dropship not only for incertion and extraction but also as a poor mans gun ship .
So that's a base Shield HP of 1075 + 650 for the extender and 15% resistance for the amp. Assuming Shield Control L5 that's 1,725 * 1.25 * 1.15 = 2,479 eHP + your armor of 770 for a total of 3,249.
I have to ask how often you are in a match with a skilled user of an Assault FG because they can put out more than that in two shots. I'm wondering if you see an occasional milita FG user rather than anyone with real experience because I've got corp mate who routinely kills dropships within a couple seconds of reporting them on the field.
I've been keeping tabs on DS surviveability in every match that I'm in and I've yet to see one last an entire match. They usually last only a minute or two. |

I question anyone who claims that FG's aren't something to be worried about. They are balanced against HAV's which make them OP against dropships in skilled hands. Given the DS's extreme exposure, clumsy handling, and slow acceleration (outside of AB's) they just aren't a match for a decent FG. A militia DS is likely to go down in one shot or two at most. With skills that second shot is coming in less than two seconds from the first which is precious little time to react. |

It's stupid our only defence against swarms is too outrun them or tank them and with forge guns the only really effective way i've found is to be a long way away and fly at a angle that is difficult for the gunner to lead
We are basically acting as the ducks in a shooting gallery. We are constantly exposed and move fairly predictably due to inertia and lack of wings.
Spoofing will counter swarm missiles at some point, but FGs are more complicated to balance. You can't nerf them without making them useless against HAVs, so you need to get more creative. A buff to base HP would be nice, but you would have to make dropships stronger than tanks to account for their lack of effective cover.
I favor skill based counters and one possible counter would be to light up all FGs on our radar as they charge up. Awareness is a first line of defense, and you had better believe that any threat detection system in DUST would include a FG warning. It wouldn't save us from a well executed ambush, but we would know where that round spamming FG was so we could avoid him or attempt to fly over and take him out. |
