Analog stick inputs while zoomed in need smoothing and/or acceleration adjustments.
Reticle accelerates too abruptly from the deadzone, resulting in jerky sight adjustments (esp. at extreme ranges with sniper rifles where minute adjustments are necessary).
Aiming mechanics seem to respond directly to controller inputs and no noticeable smoothing/acceleration function seems to be in place to negotiate this, so the issue cannot be effectively corrected by lowering X/Y sensitivity.
Reference material for "smooth" controller inputs while scoped might include Killzone 2 or 3, which (in my opinion) do an effective job of compensating for the Dualshock 3's lack of precision.
Other information: I've examined this issue with X/Y sensitivity set to default (30/30) and aim assist set to off. |

agreed fine aim adjustments are very difficult with the DS3 |

Agreed, especially noticeable when the targeting reticle jumps to either side of a enemy's head at distance. It takes a bit of bouncing from side to side to finally rest on the intended target. |

Yes, this is a big issue for me. I feel like this is a problem that a lot of shooters had back in the PS2/Xbox era, but now days just about every major shooter has this mechanic done right, so Dust should as well.
The devs have said they will be updating/tweaking the core mechanics, so hopefully this is part of that, and hopefully it's done right. |

agreed i am a very good sniper i can hit a moving target in the head or double shot him before he gets to cover but what i find it hardest to do is a target standing still. Targets at long range don't really have identifiable heads you aim very high and if the dots red you know your on there head but its hard to move the dot very slightly it mostly jerks around and you find it hard to line up a head shot. |

I'm so glad I stopped by these forums. I've been playing DUST for about a week. I've been frustrated as hell with my ability to target anything. I'm an Xbox guy for the most part so originally I thought it was the dual shock controller I wasn't used to. I bought an aftermarket PS3 controller designed like an Xbox controller. That helped some, but barely at all. I set the sensitivity to 0 and again that gained me a very slight improvement but barely noticeable. When I aim, I'm allover the map. First, I'm too far left then I'm too far right. I've always been a decent FPS player, all the way back to quake 3 arena...but not in DUST. I generally finish in the bottom 4 or 5 every match. My kill to death ratio is just plain embarrasing. Most times I'm talking to myself out loud when I'm playing, saying things like "I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in this game!"
I'm glad to see some other people are feeling the same way and I'm also glad to see they plan on updating the FPS elements, although they said that way back in October.
Other than that I'm enjoying the game a lot, it's a very nice compliment to my EVE Online experience. Big props to CCP for trying to pull this off...it could be epic :) |
