Real HMGs are more or less instant fire. Once the trigger is pulled, the bolt which is generally in the open position will shoot forward loading a round and firing it. Modern day Gatling like guns, like the Vulcan or the Minigun, have about 0.3 of a second between pulling the trigger and the gun firing full auto. Seeing as this game is a wee bit in the future this would be further refined.
The heavy at present will of course feel a bit OP, as there is a bunch of new folk in militia suits, only starting to learn the game. It does not need a nerf or extra added like 'spool up'. Just learn it's strengths and weakness'. |

the heavy will feel OP to a newberry when people like me are running a A-type with enhanced damage mods, an MH-82 HMG and 2x complex armor reps for max recovery. Of course it will feel OP until they get into an A-type assault suit with a GEK-38 and complex shield extenders or damage mods with reps in the lows. Yeh, I've been hit by a few of them shiny assaults already. I haven't got the heavy A-series yet, so they hurt me bad I'm happy to have them there as they help to rein in my Rambo desire.

Gunner Nightingale wrote:Though i wont say the gun is OP, it does have a few minor issues.
First off not a newbie so thats clear. Now when the standard, not adv or proto HMG is cutting me down from the hills above the retaining wall by B on the 4 letter map to inside and under the buidling by charlie thats a bit of a range issue even when im behind cover, using tactics and etc etc etc, its not my first rodeo so dont bother with the dumb commentary.
Another distance equivalent would be from the opening of the dividing wall above A on the same map to the top of the hill just above next to the tower closer to to D is a bit of a range issue. This well into the mid/mid-long terriorty and the absolute dumbfounding notion that the accuracy of the weapon is higher than AR's and maintains a higher and tighter cone the longer you hold the tirgger when the cone should be wider and sloppier (as any broadside, street sweeping close range destroy and shatter multiple enemies at will weapon should) the mechanics and statistics of the HMG weapon is simply off.
That said Heavies themselves are not OP in fact id say they are UP. The dropsuit needs more buff but that weapons class definitely needs a tweak in range, accuracy. With that change an increased RPM across the board and a slightly longer time to overheat to compensate for the reduction in accuracy and you have a true balanced "MINIGUN" the thing spools is it s a chain/gattling/minigun NOT an HMG. I can't work out the map you're talking about! If you were getting hit in a range that an AR would hit you in then the assault HMG would be what might have shot you.
As to its grouping and name, it is a machine gun, and a heavy according to Dust. It is a Gatling like gun, what we call a minigun, due to its multiple barrels, which fire in sequence. It's not a chain gun. A chain gun is a single barrel auto cannon, that uses a drive chain to operate the reload and ejection mechanism. Check out the nose gun on the Apache helicopter for one of the most well known. |
