Hello, I've been playing Dust 514 for a couple of days now and have hit the Sp cap. I have no objection to a cap as long as it is fair to all.
By that I mean, is it fiar to cap new players at the start of their experience but allow all the closed beta players to have all the advances they have accrued over months of playing.
going up against a player that is roughly the same level as me, I feel, is a 50-50 chance of me surviving the encounter (on a googd day). However, how am I meant to take out a fully equiped sentinal, a sniper that can kill with 1 shot from clear across the map, and worse of all, those bloody great tanks that park themselves beside a cannon and cannot be killed or even dented.
The problem, it seems to me, is not the fact that there is a cap, but that the cap will stop me (and all new players of Dust) from ever getting to the level of the closed beta players. Either lift the cap completetly or make the closed beta players start again from scratch. |

Yes you have a chance of beating him. Although he has better gear and skills you do have the chance to still kick his shiney SP butt. |

C) Just think how far ahead you are of someone who joins this summer or in 2015... |

Just pay your dues. The difference between you and the average closed beta participant will be negligible in a few months. Eventually, the vet's extra SP will make them more versatile than you instead of just plain stronger. Removing the caps won't help, as there will always be a few endlessly grinding supersoliders getting further and further ahead. |

Start us from scratch. Your kidding right. You know how hard it is to get a tank that can't be dented. It takes merc tears. No clone blood sweat and tears to get that. |

This is going to be a problem at any stage of the game. The experienced players will have more sp than new characters. The same thing exists in EVE though, but their sp is ONLY passive.
If you look around, it doesn't take much sp to get to a position where you can fight back competently. Get all of the L1 and L2 of the skills you want, be sure to upgrade weaponry to L3 at least and Dropsuit Command will reduce the enemies ability to see your chevron over your head from across the map. Level up Mechanics and Shield Control because both increase your life by 5% per level, increasing survivability. Basic Armor Plates give more hp than Militia and all Basic gear costs less CPU/PG than militia.
Don't try to go proficiency 5 in a weapon straight out the gate because your suit will suffer. Just get Type-1 or Type-2 in suit and basic everything and progress from there. However, going L1 in different weapons to try them out doesn't cost much at all. Militia suits and gear are cheap, so don't feel bad if you die a lot because you will improve with time and you're still making a profit.
Lastly, joining a corp may help. Running around with 3 other guys greatly improves your survivability. A good team of 4 militia suits will always trump the loner proto.
The beginning is rough, but soon you too will be pub stomping like a boss ~_^. |

To the OP, I am going to cross-post from another thread in response to your question. There are so many of these threads springing up it's impossible to write an original response to them all. Thanks for your understanding and patience.
M4ster Hyde wrote:Whenever this game has gone on for a year, and it is 2014, how is a new player ever hope to catch up? Wont this turn noobies away because they know they are garbage compared to even the casual players with no hope of ever catching up? Or taking forever to do so? The SP issue is a paper tiger.
... the skill tree is designed with diminishing rewards. If somebody wants to have marginally better stats at the high end (level 5 skills instead of level 4) instead of more gameplay options, that is their choice. As a squad commander, would you rather have a guy in your squad that is really really good at only one thing? Or a guy who can do multiple things reasonably well? Decisions, decisions.
Here is another thing to think about, using EVE as an example. If a 5 year veteran has gone the route of fully spec'ing a shield battleship, what happens when the fleet commander calls for armor battleships? Thats, right. The new guy who has only been playing for a year with a focus on armor is going to be on the front line and the veteran shield battleship is staying at home.
My continued advice to everyone is not to worry about max SP, caps, or veterans that are years ahead of you. I guarantee strategic minds will find excellent opportunities for newbros to contribute to a battle. |
