Much like in film and tv, sound design in games is something that is extremely important but often overlooked. Bad sound design is actually worse and a bigger turn off than bad visual design. Don't underestimate it's importance. Right now in dust, it's serviceable, but far from excellent. You need to strike a balance between realistic and artificial, as too far in either direction and it sounds boring and generic. To this day, I still think battlefield bad company 2 has the best sound design of any shooter, it sounds simply fantastic, and it takes the enjoyment of playing it to a whole new level. |

If you have played journey of the unfinished swan, you will know how, if sound is employed correctly, it is a huge part of the game. |

Battlefield 3 I only played because the sound of the battle was epic. And it was fun for a bit, until the patches came and killed it. |

It's not as important than the gameplay and constant bugs is it? Sound can wait. |

It's not as If the sound designer can just switch to map construction or network debugging. You wouldn't expect expect a flight mechanic to be assigned to fly your plane if there weren't enough pilots, would you? |

Good point. But if they're doing a hotfix on sound why not release hotfixes on other, more pressing matters. |

Ambient war noises and visuals (random fighters doggin it out in the sky every now and then or streaks of lasers / missiles in the air) would add a lot of atmosphere to DUST. I agree on the BFBC2 had a great sense of actually being in a war zone. Distant gunfire and mortar (i know not in game yet) fire always made it seem more real than it was.
I'd love seeing that in game once less pressing issues are taken care of. |

It's not like CCP is sitting there going "Oh! lets just focus on sound"
Different departments work on different things
Why people are complaining about CCP further developing a piece of the game is blowing my mind. |

I'd prefer a hotfix on game stability or game bugs to be released. Not sounds. Wouldn't you agree? |

BC2 is my all time favorite shooter for many reasons. Sound is one of the bigger ones. The sounds that came with just heading up to the next objective made running a lot more entertaining. Most games nowadays don't add ambiance type sounds which make a bland game. I hope CCP is adding these types of sounds.

battlefield bad company 2 so far has had the most realistic sound design ive ever experienced on a console. if you were playing on a snow map you could literally hear how cold it was and when your guy went into a house you could hear him trying to warm himself up through the breathing noises he made. followed by hearing the enemies foot steps in the attic 2 floors up. and the approaching tank in the distance. |

Because for sounds and database items CCP cleverly built in the ability to stream new content(sound files in this case) to the client without having to change the client code. Code fixes require more that just streaming updates, so those we gotta wait for. |

Looks like we're getting vote option #2 for the interim skillpoint system too, with a 190k weekly cap and a 1wp=1sp payout after the cap, maxxed at 1000 sp pr match.
