Hey there, I was wondering that your guys' experience for what range you can start to 'dance around' HMG fire, or the range at which a spray at you is relatively benign? I'm talking as a logi who can take around 200 shield damage before going into armor.
The thought is if you can have a heavy trained on you and you can dance around waiting for him to empty his clip to reload, then you can either charge and get a headshot (hopefully having worn him down a bit already) or run into cover, or have him distracted while a friend flanks him. My guess is that its much harder to win a battle against a heavy in the wide open at <25 m, but outside of that, probably with a tactical AR, your odds go up the further you go out. The advantage of this is that his scanners shouldn't immediately pick you up at that distance.
I'm guessing this is dependent on HMG skills so lets start with the T1 HMG with no skills and then work our way up.
Ideally we should get to the point where we are aware at what range we are engaging heavies, we've seen what they are killing with, and then what kind of suit they have, at that point you can deduce approximately how far to attack them from. |

This thread should get you started as it covers the ranges without skill bonuses applied.

Awesome thanks. It looks like the answer then is a 'safer' engagement somewhere between 50-70m without any skills (so against an MLT fit heavy). Probably a STD heavy you want to be just a little further out.
Of course you can still duck and dive inside this range, but your likelihood of death is higher.
This is really only feasible with a mass driver, tactical AR, laser rifle, or sniper rifle. Thie logi is most likely to be running with the first 3. |

I took on a squad who had a heavy in it in my last match. He got me, but it was my own fault. I snuck up behind him and missed with one of the two grenades I planned on feeding him, then missed with 1/2 of the shots from my scrambler pistol. I emptied two clips into the air while I had him cornered before he took me out. Earlier in the same match I took a heavy & 2 assault suits out using melee (was in a logi w/ a sniper rifle).
Higher degrees of difficult require higher degrees of finesse to counter. |
