Breakin Stuff wrote:the fact that we have to pay for the privelege of engaging in FW is absolutely stupid. Win = ISK payout Lose = maybe 100k as a retainer fee.
I think the collateral payment is absolutely lame.
If I'm a merc I expect to be paid for killing people for a faction, not to have to pay them in order to engage.
Totally agree with this. |

Great post Kain, and I love how you're considering it from the point of view of making the connection to corp members and directors more visceral and informative.
With a little modification these are the tools we will employ in nullsec, it's great that we're building and polishing them now. Thanks for the good work.
I'm thinking the starmap is the best way to do this, both for communications between Mercs and Pilots, and for keeping Corp members in the loop. We need some immediate visual indication of how the sovereignty wars are going, with the ability to zoom all the way into a specific district, including the one we are currently fighting in.
Posted contracts should be visible and accessible through the starmap, as well as requests for support or offers of support. An historical sovereignty time-lapse replay(maybe even indicating battle histories with winners and losers, ISK destroyed, team rosters, etc.) would make the whole faction war a lot more real for the troops and also for mercs in general who were thinking about getting involved. I would really like the starmap interface to be a super slick, high cool-factor marketing tool for enticing peeps out of pubs and getting them connected to the greater EVE universe.
The starmap is a common element between the two games, and I think that any peeps who have taken a look at it in EVE will agree that it's pretty cool as it is. Imo it should be capitalized on, and not just for faction warfare - it's the coolest, most natural way to integrate EVE and DUST, and any other games that CCP chooses to set in the New Eden universe.
I think it's worth some serious EVE/DUST dev months.
Edit: Bugger. I see Noc beat me to this. +1 Noc for a great idea, if I do say so myself ;) |

I think CCP needs to invent special jump drives or some kind of interstellar drive for Mercs. The current cyno system won't work well for Mercenaries not supported EVE side.
And Kain, you the man. |
