I would like to at least have more interesting game modes. I like Sabatoge from MAG. Can we get something like this? How about some PvE modes as well like Resistance 2?

At least there were objectives in Sabo. Ambush can go for all I care. It's fun and all, for a little while, but to me it just feels so... directionless. Nothing to do but smear the reddots.
In skirmish, you can make a real difference. One of the deciding factors of an Ambush match is how quickly your bluedots bleed out. = / |

We're getting a PVE mode, I think its called Infestation. Its against rogue drones. You can see a glimpse of it in this trailer; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnt1tTlnqfY I really want a multi-stage attack and defend mode. Something similar to sabotage would work. |

I would like to point out this is a beta still, and the devs are working very hard on bringing us more content. We have drones, FW upgrade, more variation on planets, and more gear coming soon. this is really only the fourth build, give them time man. |

If you are wanting to have a new game mode such as in MAG then I would like to see some ACQUISITION. At least have spawn points with turrets and before spawn be able to look around so that I'm not automatically surrounded.

About every mode from mag would fit well in dust.
What about something like the killzone mode were the objective switched few times in match. Once we have team leaders/battle commanders, they could pick the current objective. At end of match side with most objectives complete would be winner. |

I think an exploration mode where you can eventually free roam mine, plunder, and hunt down any enemies who happen to be in your map would really set this game apart from other shooters. It would be like the cinematic when you start the game where the merc is all like "what is this place?".
The redline would be relieved and there would only be a medium vehicle with a cru in it and a scanner to locate points of interest.
It would be like mass effect 1 exploration online :D

The reason there's still only 2 game modes is that there are still far more pressing issues than adding further content. When the core mechanics are all sorted and working fine (server stability, sound, terrain glitching to name a few), then will be the time to start introducing new stuff. Get your priorities right - it's still in beta for a reason; let's not rush them. |

oh... my.. I do believe I have the vapors! You sir, are a man after my own heart (no homo).
never played ME, but what you just described made me giddy with hope. It could be kinda like scanning for complexes in EVE. you'd scan a planet, if something popped up, you could go, and with varying degrees of dificulty (simple mining/exploration, to killing WAVES and WAAAAVES of drones) you could earn anything from salvage to ISK! maybe even find a way to make it so someone can scan, see someones at the site, pop in and try to take the site by force!
Oh man... listen to me... pratteling on like a scoolgirl. what can I say, I'm a man who digs some quality MMO-style sandbox PVE/PVP! |

There are always plans for more game modes that will give you more variety of gameplay. As has been said in this thread, the primary concern right now is making sure the actual battles are fun to play and balanced. |

Shamelessly reposting from here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=311012#post311012
It's a good question, Gagah-Boy Brasil.
I think it's fair to say that there are many DUST players who would love some form of free roaming, and also Dust players who couldn't give 2 kittens about it, and in fact would hate if it was forced on them.
It's also prolly fair to say that the same divisions of taste exist within CCP's DUST design team.
Because this is CCP we're dealing with, if the player base expresses a stong enough interest over a long enough time frame, we prolly will get some form of open-world free roam game mode.
The game modes we know about already are:
1) Instanced matches in Planetary districts. CCP has stated and tested that the DUST code scales well, and there is little doubt that we will eventually see 100 vs. 100 battles. That is MMO in my books.
2) Instanced PVE sites where we do the zombie-drone suicide mission thingie. Later there will prolly be other PVE modes. CCP is going to be very cautious with this because of their experiences with the EVE playerbase - it's too easy to suck the life out of the PVP part of the game if you make the PVE too attractive. On the other hand, if CCP can pull it off, it's an incredible opportunity for world-building and immersive education in the New Eden backstory, and also a potentially important game mechanic.
3) Planetary Interaction a la EVE, which will be a graphical overlay on a planet's map and will allow mercs to basically set up extractor, transport systems, refineries and launch pads to get product off-planet. This will most likely be done from the Merc Quarters, and is basically just interaction with a couple of control screens.
4) The warbarge and stations in EVE. Eventually we will have free roam of these environments, the warbarge sooner and stations later. The stations will almost certainly be confined to one deck, or more likely part of one deck, the 'customs, commerce, and recreation' area. There will be customizable player-owned rooms in these areas.
If we want free-roam, the question is what form do we want it to take? It seems impractical to ask for an entire planetary surface to be generated, but to be honest I'm not sure if there is really any game-stopping technical problem with that. At any rate, such a request right now would be unreasonabe, i think.
I'd like to see in the medium-term something that would involve free-roam resource or archeological prospecting in a lonely, remote environment, but one where other players(allied, neutral or enemy), could prospect also. This is the free-roam open world part. A prospector or archeologist would employ their skills and special suit modules as well as deployable equipment & drones to locate dig sites. Imagine the logistics of choosing a loadout for your prospecting LAV or dropship, as well as packing sensor, defensive and offensive installations/drones into a limited volume/weight cargohold. Do you devote half your cargo allowance to a remote CRU unit or go in tough as nails with a single clone? Stealth scout suit with basic scanning modules or tricked out Logi-Prospector suit with god-like information gathering powers?
These sites would be instanced, not free-roam, and PVE or PVP, depending on whether another prospector/team located the same dig site and entered the dig while you were in it.
Hilarity and pants-crapping tension ensues.
or something like that. |

tl;dr: the more battles types you want the harder it will be to find a battle to get into. At peak time I'm guessing there are currently only about ~100 matches queing for any game mode. Thus recruitment of outsiders is key for enjoyment and the game's longevity.
So just mathing here (which I'm not the best at) but lets say of the 1mill characters that are apparently on dustboard that 300k of them are real players.
Of those lets say that at the peak weekend time about 150k are on during US time zone.
Lets say 50% of these people are in squads of 4 (that's 31,250 groups). 25% are in squads of 2 and the rest not squaded. that's (18750 groups, 37500 groups respectively)
Now lets imagine that Ambush games last 10 minutes and skirmish last 20 mins. and groups spend about 2 mins between matches.
If people are perfectly matched together and all playing at once, for 150k people you can have about 4,688 games.
If you have 3 different game modes and each group/person is split evenly among them you get about 1562 games per mode. If we had 5 game modes then you get under 938 games per mode. But this is if each group is continuously playing nonstop and the matchmaker finds perfect mixes of players.
If referencing above, You search for map/mingle for 5 mins, wait in lobby for 1.5 min, actual games last for an average of about 13 mins (average between skirmish/ambush) then your 'ingame efficiency' or amount of mins in game spent playing is probaly close to 66%.
So this means the amount of actual games being played during peak times is reduced by that amount. So 4688 games becomes, 3094. With 3 game modes this becomes close to 1000. With 5 its closer to 600.
Now that's not all! There won't be that many games available to join every minute because most games will actually be being played. So we need to determine how many are available (queuing) at a time. For that I'll ballpark that at any given time the % of available games is equal to (queue-time)/(average game length) so since queue time is about 1.5 mins and I'm saying game length is around 13 mins, then only 11% of games are available to join at any one time.
So with 3 game modes you now have closer to 100 games you can join, with 5 modes you have closer to 60. And that is IF your squad size fits well with the available amount of spots. Which with squads of 6 this becomes even more difficult.
But as you can see, this doesn't even include people peeling off for corp battles, nor does it take into consideration our demands for matching randoms and PUGs, or lowskilled with highskilled, all of which reduces the matching pool size. It also is assuming peak time, and at its lowest time it is probably 10% of peak.
So MORE battle options, with BIGGER squads, and BIGGER teams, and MORE SPECIFIC matching criteria will quickly mean that the availability of actual battles goes way down.
My guess is that they would want a consistent population of no fewer than about 20k players per game mode at any time (if match size stays 32 players) and about 2 standard deviations of SP/WP/ability (or 95% of players have no higher than 2x the average or less than 50% of the average SP/WP amount). I can imagine a point at which a large veteran part of the player base continue to grind SP they will shift the skill distribution right. CCP will have to figure out a way to make their accumulated ability either less marginally useful or have more utility when invested in the 'community aspect' of the game rather than reaping huge rewards on the battlefield that intimidate new players. |

IMO, If this "Excavation" type game mode/freeroam is implemented into the game, it should be a combination of PVP and PVE. When i say this i mean, i think you and a squad should be able to choose a planet to excavate and mine materials from. When you get on the planet to explore and scavenge materials, there should be AI Drones patrolling the planet, along with enemy players of a rival corporation/alliance. Also, if the corporation has enough money, they should be able to invest in a mining ground/ material gathering factory thing, slowly increasing the corporations overall ISK. After accumulating a fair amount of material compounds, other corps can invade your compounds and take them over, by sending in mercenaries or by sending in powerful AI drones that the rival corp invested in creating. If the corp defending the compound doesn't have many mercs online to protect it, it could have fairly powerful drones to help defend (also purchased and deployed by defending corp) |
