I have not logged on to Dust for several days, so what has happened to cause all this lag? (if anybody is experiencing the same thing I am...) |

(if anybody is experiencing the same thing I am...) well probably a multitude of things. 1, growing playerbase. 2, it's sunday 3, The gigantic capital fight that was probably blowing one of the nodes in london that is probably still going on right now. 4, have you turned your router off and on again? |

The rapidly increasing Dust player count (combined with Sunday having traditionally the highest user counts) is the most likely cause, imho.

Which would put us at a minimum of ~270,000 accounts.
And the lag was probably due to that stupidly large capital battle last night. It was supposed to be one of the largest in EvE history and bombed the kitten out of the Tranquility server. |

I hauled ass there in my Ares over 20 jumps to snap some pics, lagged like a demon to get in, and the fight literally ended within a minute of loading local. I was definitely disappoint |

The main reason that last night / today's battle caused so much trouble was because it happened spontaneously, normally the really BIG fights are fought at a specific time and in a specific place - this allows the alliances involved to give CCP advanced notice. CCP then places the system (or systems) on special souped-up reinforced nodes, unfortunately this can only happen at down time - and since there was no warning, the battle took place on a normal node. TBH it's a minor miracle (and testament to CCPs hard work) that the server and the game held up so well - a few years ago battles half that size could crash the entire cluster. |

We do use sol to some extent for galaxy location awareness, the battle servers which I like to nickname 'Terra' has to be told where the battles are at all times from sol so that orbital strikes or even market can be coordinated together along with all the inventory and persona servers. I mean in the future other Carbon Rest API services will have to be tapped on to further deepen the link. I mean one day you will run out of items and need to buy stuff from local market and the eve players in system are a bit of a larp and jacked up prices 5x. Should have stocked ahead of time.
This is what makes Dust 514 an IT's nightmare to connect into Eve Online because they're literally using most of the same servers, the only servers we all to ourselves will be the 'Terra' battle servers. Now don't get mad at ccp for not preparing they did a massive upgrade to the server farm in London and threw nearly tripled the number machines that just handled all the conversations between the specific servers. |

Big ass fight broke out from nowhere yesterday as someone fell trap to the old jump/bridge trick. Dust servers were certainly strained. |
