Hey All.
I'm currently training up to Caldari Dropships lvl 3 and I have started to think in more depth about the fitting I want. Specifically what turrets I want. to my mind it looks like once/if missiles get a bit of a buff they would be the best option. but until then I'm just not sure. so, who better to ask what turrets I should skill up in than the guys who will be using them.
So my question to all you gunners out there, regardless if you just jump into a turret because its there or you are a skilled gunner what turrets do you prefer to use, Missiles, Blasters or Rails and why?
Thanks for you help guys.
P.s To the teams that have to put up with a sub par pilot, I'm sorry, I'm still learning to fly :S
Tally so far
Rails = 3
Blasters = 8
Missiles = 2
Thanks guys keep them coming :) |

STOP! DROPSHIPS ARE NOT WORTH SKILLING INTO
But if you must... then until missiles get fixed, its blasters or bust. But what you should really focus on getting and fitting is the fuel injection. Trust me on this once you get that, you will have tons more survivability and fun.
But I wouldn't skill to far into DSs, my opinion. |

Thanks Belzeebub but unfortunately I have a thing for flying in fps's. so even though I know there weak as wet paper and about as useful, I'm sure I can still have fun in them (and I am) so thanks for the heads up but honistly ill be ignoring it ;P
And you never know, maybe if a few of us use them, dream up ways to improve them without breaking the game, post on the forums, maybe, just maybe a Dev might listen and might fix them ^_^
Although it could end up like trying to get some mining love back when i was still playing eve..... T_T |

Although it could end up like trying to get some mining love back when i was still playing eve..... T_T I know flying ds is just plain fun . Traditionally the accelerated missiles are best though ive heard blasters are now usuable but I havent taken the time to try them on my ds. But I would still stick with missiles unless ur in a squad with decent gunners who can aim bit of a ****** protection with the splash dmg of missiles |

I.actually prefer railguns. They hit where your aiming and ignore dropship speed. |

It's going to be between blasters and missiles, the main issue is that dropships move a lot so a precision weapon like a railgun is going to be hard to use for a lot of gunners. Missiles are nice because of their range and splash damage but the movements of the dropship will cause missiles to fly off mark so they can be quite innacurate. Blasters are great because their high rate of fire makes hitting targets easier but they are strictly close range so you do have to get up close, which means great flying skills and choosing areas with a lot of vertical cover.
I wonder if anyone has tried a railgun snipy dropship? |

La Fortune, your conclusion is the same as mine. I'm currently playing around with different guns (so far only skilled for missiles and blasters) but I'm having problems getting gunners to give feedback of any kind, choice of turrets is pretty vital and while looking at the stats I think missiles are best, the guy using them might hate them.
So far it seems to be an even spread for all turrets so unless I start working with specific gunners, I think I'm just going to have to see which is most effective in the field.... number of kills, effectiveness against vehicles etc.... going to take a while and i was so hoping for a quick, simple answer XD
Anyway keep your answers coming in, more people that reply the better ^_^ |

What is up with the Turrets on the tanks? If it barely moves, especially if its a rocket turret, it will 9/10 shoot off into space or at a 60 degree angle in any direction away from the target. |

scattered blaster
they dont need to fix missile vs infantry that was easy mode/lucky shot while the dropship zoomed around at full speed, blasters take skill from both pilot and gunner working together |

rails are fun you have to slow down to get your gunners shots tho.. really whats the point of a missle that does the same dmg as a rail now, only it flies slower- pointless. i plan on 1 rail/1 blaster when i get back around to skilling dropships |

Blasters.
In such an infantry heavy game, they rule.
Maybe will larger maps and more vehicles railguns and missiles will be more important.
Missiles are kind of broken right now anyway. |

I love my blasters.
They dont do much against other vehicles. But they do great against infantry. |

On the right maps with plenty of high cover Scattered blasters on an armor DS are sheer carnage if you can learn to feel when you've out stayed your welcome hovering over a crowd of reds your survive ability is actually fairly high. with the obvious exception of a pincer attack by 2 or more forge guns there's just no countering that if there a even half decent shot. |

Small blasters used to have terrible range, I can't say I have tried them this build.
Even with the range and damage nerf, I still think small missile launchers are pretty good vs infantry. Especially on a dropship that is flying around and unable to slow down without being 1-shot by a rail.

I've always gotten the majority of my turret kills with small blasters, but I think railguns are better if you're using the dropship as a legitimate transport. |

First, no need to skill up past a myron because the logi dropships suck. Second, accelerated missles are the only way to go. One direct hit kills most every dropsuit and if you miss you still get them with the splash damage. My gunners still get around 20 kills a game but more in kill assists. Plus missiles are great at taking out tanks, lavs, dropships, and installations. Also if you are serious about dropships you should get a fuel injector. It will more than double your chances of survival. |

I put rails on my ship, but people have a hard time getting kills when, even when I hover. The plus side is, they can get kills even if I hover high above the objective.
I use blasters as well, but most of the time you have to get too close and hover a bit too long. But when you get a gunner that know what they are doing with blasters...they can really rack up the kills.
My vote is for blasters. |

Thanks guys, seems like blasters are definitely the preferences so far. especially where there is an element of cover. But missiles and rails seems to be the preference when there isn't the cover to sit comfortably.
Keep them coming guys and thanks. |

the only way to go right now are the long range small blasters (stabilazed is their name i think)
but when they put autocannons in the game you will have to decide between Autocannons (mounted HMGs higher range than blasters but less dmg per shot and blasters)
and if you want a gunship or an attack dropship go for the gallente one it has more PG what means you will be able to fit more things (more space for PG and CPU upgrades) can reach more life than the shield one and the fuel injector makes up for the lack of speed and its easier to manuever |
