I have started this topic as I have had an idea I would like to share and see the feedback of the community so lets see how this goes. The basic idea is about a new game mode based around you guessed it salvage.
1) What goes up must come down. As we all know Dust 514 is connected to eve, meaning at some point or another ships went boom. Now these ships at some point after floating in space for countless hours, days, months, and years of came out of their orbit and crashed on planets. The game mode revolves around this idea of crashed ships with parts just waited to be picked up and turned into profit by any man or woman brave enough to venture and find it. Which is where the salvage game mode comes in.
In this mode you are given the location of a wrecked ship. Difficulty on the mission changes as the ship class increases. To avoid to much confusion I will not mention tier 2 ships. But an example would be- a crashed Hurricane Battle cruiser with rogue drones at the site beginning to salvage the crash for themselves. As the damage increased lets say to a Cap or super cap ship things would get interesting because obviously other Mercs would want in on this creating a PVP scenario.
Chart of difficulty (Frigates and destroyers- No chance of PvP / Light NPC resistance, BC and BS- Low chance of PvP High NPC resistance, Caps and Super Caps- Always PvP) This creates more reward for higher risk.
Now into how the salvaging work which I have three possible ideas.
1) New gun and equipment put into the game just for salvaging purposes. This would include a salvaging tool and possibly salvage drop suits that increase the chance of better salvage. You would enter a match and you and your team would have to search the outside and inside of a wrecked ship to find things of value while fighting off NPCs or other players who wish to have the salvage for themselves. The locations of the salvage would not be shown on a map and would be randomly generated therefore would be sort of a treasure hunt to hopefully find the best stuff you can and than leave once you are satisfied.
2) This idea would require the player to join a salvage game type upon entry the players would be tasked with escorting an NPC salvage drone around the crash site as it stop periodically to salvage things of value. Protecting the drone until the end of the end of its voyage. This would also give the option for a defence and attack style of play for PvP where as one team would be escorting and another would be attempting to stop the salvage team. Also quite possible is two teams of salvagers with two totally different drones who make their way across a map eventually meeting in the middle. This would give player choice to choose to take out the enemy team early on or wait until they actually meet or even setting up ambushed on the path.
3) Possibly the best option and most easy to put in would have each salvage point be a capture point like in skirmish(although not shown on the map until found) You would tag the salvage for pick up after the match is over by a salvage drone which than would show the salvage you have been awarded in the end game screen. This mode would act out sort of a race between teams when played in PvP where as both teams rush to cap as many places as they can before the other team gets them. After a salvage point is captured the other team would not be able to capture it although the enemy team happens to stumble upon your salvage they may destroy it(kinda an if I cant have it nobody can scenario) Other than that the game would much resemble the first option without all needing to add all new equipment into the game.
In all three game mods the NPCs would act as a kinda Horde mode, possibly being killed off after a certain number of waves leaving you free to salvage. All modes would be 1 squad per team and 1 life per member so players are encouraged to be careful and pick each other up. If possible there could be 4 way battles making a total of 16 players for salvage mode (24 once the squad number is changed to 6). I personally believe mode 3 would have the most success although mode 2 could be put in later. I would be scared about mode 2 though because lets face it no one likes to babysit NPC, especially stupid ones.
Well I look forward to feed back, thanks for reading if you did. If this seems to be liked by a lot of people ill post other ideas I have had if not ill just keep them to myself.
Have fun and die safe!
