Amazing, a post about first impressions that doesn't make me want to troll you... Much.

I tried EVE, and while I respected it's level of customization (skills,) I found it to be far too tedious. Getting started is a daunting task, and it kind of puts you off when you are looking at years of play-time and subscription fees before you can really start to enjoy the game. I feel that this is something of a barrier to new players, but I am NOT asking that it be changed. EVE is EVE, and I don't expect it to change just for me.
It taks a truly special person to play EVE. You know, OCD or wearing a helmet and licking the windows. or like me, Spaceships, spaceguns, **** blowing up and ragemail sent to you.

Hit detection is always going to be a little wonky in dust because there is no client-side detection. it's all server-side so the little aimbots and such that skill-less choads put in so they can look hardcore won't work. The price we pay is that the lag burps are absolutely nightmarish to cope with.
Quote:Now, some of this can be mitigated with a tighter "hip-fire" spread, but then you would run into issues with everyone claiming SMGs are overpowered, Sniper Rifles shouldn't be able to kill at close range, and etc... I think the better solution is to optimize the engine to favor response over fancy effects. I am one of those people (and I think I'm in the majority) would rather play a more precise game with less graphics than a fancy game with sluggish control (COD vs. BF3.) Please make the control response more "tight." Control responses have improved over time and are still being tightened up. SMGs are only overpowered versus stupid people who can't figure out that the best way to engage a target will usually be outside punching range. And to whit, so far CCP has been primarily making core gameplay the priority in the builds and fixes, so expect the situation to improve, if not quickly.

- Provide each character with the skill-book (used, but as of yet untrained) to use their chosen class's first level of dropsuit upgrade.
- Allow further customization of dropsuit loadouts by allowing players to remove things (side-arms) to free up the resources needed to install better equipment. You can provide all the skills/equipment in the world, but if players can't make use of them right away, they will get bored/frustrated and move on.
I may have just missed it, but I never did find a way to remove secondary weapons from the starting drop-suits. If it is possible to remove them, can someone tell me what I missed? I would appreciate it.
this suggestion will meet opposition just because some people like to rage. it's not a bad idea at all. newbs need lovin' too. Like fat girls.
Until you buy your first real dropsuit as opposed to newberry suit, you cannot remove anything. You may only add/replace. Also the two primary skills to upgrade in order to make fitting with PG/CPU easier are circuitry and Combat engineering. I highly recommend all newberries train them to 3 ASAP. Militia suits suck. abandon them as fast as ye can.
Quote:I get it. EVE people are used to the idea of always being able to noob-stomp the people just starting out, and that they can pretty much never stop doing so... The inherent problem with this philosophy is that that you immediately limit your audience. While this is a good thing for EVE, it will ultimately be a toxic attitude within Dust 514. Everyone must remember the cardinal rule of FPS games...
"You will never keep people more than a year, and you have to rely on new tricks to bring them back and generate replacement customers."
EVE and DUST will have things in common. the attitude will not change, but if someone wants to merrily spend all their time doing pubmatches there's really no one to suicide gank them. We have that in EVE. There's no safe place in EVE. but the Newberries have a merc quarters and a battle finder.
You all are not NEARLY as exposed to hostile action as us EVE monkeys make it out to be unless you get out and take the risk (when CCP implements planetary control crap) of gaining a profit that we might gank you for. Make no mistake. we will gank you.
But that doesn't stop you from potentially having a VERY profitable time exploiting what you find until we do. Those who take risks will find rewards in CCP games. Most of EVE's population is huddled in hisec thinking they should be safe, while trying to pretend the wolves aren't all around them picking off the weak and slow. At this time, all a DUST toon needs to do to keep from getting facehammered for the LULz is stick in his merc quarters and spam battle finder.
