Make a new version that sucks, and release that with a new name. Players who had purchased the original would have an advantage, but the item would become so rare if it was consumable that it might not ever be used outside tournaments, important battles in important wars, etc. So it wouldn't be used by scrubs to hold an advantage over other players.
I hope this kind of thing does take place. I am looking forward to the next few years in DUST with much anticipation.
But yeah, right now we have a long ways to go still. The great thing is, we will never reach the end, there will always be something new just around the corner.
You are assuming that the stuff on the market will not eventually be produced by the players in a player-controlled market. Just like Eve Online, eventually almost every item on the market will not only be consumable but also produced by players.
This means that those players will decide the price of the items and thus jack them up if they like. But due to the competitive nature of open markets in a player-controlled environment (as seen on Eve) other players can choose to undercut the sellers to attract the buyer's attention thus cutting into the profits of others.
CCP is not known for pulling items off the market once the market is under player control and said items can be produced by everyone who has spare time. |

CCP said they won't have a problem porting it over to the PS4. They also said they will maintain support for the PS3 version. This was mentioned multiple times on Eurogamer, Ten Ton Hammer, Playstation Network Blogs, etc. |

that would be hilarious to see several eve players with trillions of isk jack up the price of all dust stuff to completly shut out any and all new players from enjoying the game.
