SO, I, as well as all other pre-open beta players, are getting tired of the usual "SP CAP" threads and "HEAVYS MAN!!!" threads as well; along with other "THIS NEEDS NERF" or "THIS NEEDS BUFF" threads.
This thread isn't about that, nor should those arguments come into play here. This thread is about CONTRACTS; something that everyone avoids yet it's something that's very important to the game.
For new players contracts are not "rooms" or "lobbies" or what ever you want to call them. They are suppose to be writs of battle; something that will allow you to interact with EVE players, and also the main point of playing this game. Yes, they will have a select planet to fight on and set amount of rewards and all that jazz, but that's not what you're suppose to focus on. The focus is on the interaction with EVE and DUST Mercs; gains and losses, fame and glory, etc.
I've been playing since the first build, where we had only a few maps up and running, and everything seemed like it needed to be worked on drastically. Happy to say, I'm glad the game is turning out the way it is now despite what others may argue. Everything was worked on except for the main part, which is the reason why I signed up for early closed beta codes in the first place; EVE contracts and interacting with another huge MMO.
CCP, I don't how you do it and frankly I don't care how you do it, but there needs to be contracts in place. NCP or not or a few set up by the Devs or something, these contracts need to come out quickly. Open beta is here already, and the main feature in which the game was created for is not up and running.
This isn't a complaint nor a petition, it's a warning. You guys haven't kept your promise up until now. If you let it slip by any longer, you're going to start to lose the player base that helped create and build and provided feedback for the game. Nevermind the flood of new players and the gaming backgrounds they come from, they can not fathom the excitement either me or any other closed beta player felt when receiving that key code; different games of two every different play styles, coming together to work together or fight against each other. |

You sir need to contribute to the discussion instead of whine whine whine. Your comment is unnecessary in a thread that needs to be looked over; an issue that everyone has avoided
As for the gentleman that mentioned game mechanics (solid groundwork...etc.): contracts ARE part of the game's mechanics and groundwork; it's the sole reason why this game was made in the first place. IT'S THE MAIN PART OF THIS GAME. It's a mechanic in that it's not only a feature of the game, but it could very well balance the issues that everyone has been complaining and re-complaining about for the past year.
How? That's why I made this thread; to think up of ideas as to how can us, as testers, make the game better.... Since no one wanted to touch on a topic that we needed to talk about, I went ahead created one for you. |

I can see where the maps would be a big issue in conjunction with comtracts. Yet could there be a logical explaination within the EVE lore/universe as to why the lands look the same? Terra forming perhaps.
And if they are creating new maps, I think thats a horrible idea to start working on those first. It would take them years to make dierent maps for each and every planet out ther
They could open contracts now, it's an open beta and it's more then perfect timing to get great feed back from both EVE and "new" Dust players. Even those kids might think up of something pretty cool.
Right now they have factional warfare as the only way to intereact with DUST-as far as Orbital Strikes go. What I think they should do, at least to get some progress into the realm of contracts, is to open up the interaction take out factional warefare prerequisites. |

Jackof All-Trades wrote:In one of the DUST 514 keynote from last year (not sure which one, but it's not the main one and I think they were covering customization, you can see it on CCP's YouTube channel) CCP said they were intended on computer maps seeding every planet randomly, with CCP stepping in to just supervise. I guess they could be giving us 'stereotypical maps' so they can guess what kind if nap try should program, but they haven't explicitly said that, and I can't make blind leaps of faith.
I think they've made DUST have less of an impact so they don't destroy the economy. They've included orbital strikes, and seeded Tranquility with Infantry gear for EVE players to get used to. But yes, they should widen the ability to use OB's in Corporate warfare as well.
Along with the map concerns and and the intergration with the main EVE servers, the question now would be can CCP fuctionally implement contracts.
Since it seems like contracts are dependent maps and their variations PLUS EVE pilot interactions, it would make sense for CCP to focus on those issues 1st. Yet, I think the pressure from the community to have more maps might of gotten to their heads. If they had to give up one and work on another, I would start with contract building and implication. I can care less if they stop working on maps and start working contracts.
I'm getting tired of CoD kids wanting and needing something to keep their fix....it's getting old. |
