Request that an additional text and in game performance bonus be added to the Drop Uplink usage skill, along the lines of "5% reduced CPU requirement for Drop Uplink modules per level". This will bring this skill into line with the nanohive/nanoinjector usage skill. (Grants 5% reduced CPU requirement per level for modules requiring the nanotechnology skill)
Going by the current skill description, training to use Drop Uplinks does not offer any percentage bonuses. Training the skill only gives you access to higher tier items.
Drop Uplinks are prohibitively costly to equip in terms of suit fitting. A militia uplink module requires 50 CPU, while the militia AR requires only 30. The Uplinks also take a lot more CPU than the other equipment options. (Nanohives/Injectors)
This is understandable to a degree as the benefits they offer are substantial. For that reason I'm not requesting the base CPU use be reduced.
However I'm not seeing a lot (or often any) uplinks deployed in the public ambush matches. I feel this may be due largely to how difficult they are to fit around without making significant sacrifices, like ditching your sidearm. I see plenty of nanohives and repair tools in use, so I don't feel their lack of use is due to public ignorance of the importance of equipment usage.
I can't speak for corp matches, I'm only a pub-ling for now.
My personal ideal outcome, I'd like to be able to train skills like Circuitry (increase suit CPU output) and Light Weapon Upgrade (reduce weapon CPU usage) and the suggested altered Drop Uplink skill, to a level where I can construct an Assault fit built around Militia BPOs that includes a Drop Uplink, without making drastic compromises. From first glance I don't think this is currently possible.
I'm not asking it be easy, I expect to have to train several skills to 4 or higher, just that it be possible.
I'm writing this from work and haven't re-checked, but I think "Grenadier" might be in the same boat? Training the skill merely unlocks tier access, with no percentage performance bonus. Even a 2% per level would be something. Either to damage, radius, or CPU use. Don't have a solid suggestion on this, I just really hate seeing these barren, no-bonus, "gateway" skills in game. With no bonus they just feel like a SP sink, something to slow you down for the sake of it without really rewarding your patience.
