So this is a suggestion that covers a few areas that I think would add to the richness of the game, the 'leveling' of players and impact the risk vs. reward system and provide a high level isk sink.
TL;DR The basic idea is make a cost associated with death that is associated with SP beyond just losing money from your dropsuit. It would function much like clones in eve, but also a little differently. The Lore: Your 'Mercenary Consciousness' must be transfered every time you lose a clone. This isn't that difficult when you are a new scrub, but as you develop a greater and more sophisticated knowledgebase (+SP) this transfer creates more and more strain on local and galactic networking resources. Mercenary Consciousness Federation (MCF) provides a free basic Consciousness Transferral Package (CTP) that entry level mercenaries have a difficult time over-using. However, after about a month's worth of activity, a mercenary will start to see some interesting developments...
The Mechanics: -The size of a clone's consciousness is directly related to the SP amount trained. -The more times a merc spawns the more of their CTP that they are using. -CTP use can be mitigated by being nano-injected on the battlefield, or spawning in on uplinks or in an MCC. -Higher grade uplinks conserve more bandwidth than spawning at objectives. -As you approach your bandwidth cap (within 5%) of your CTP your respawns start to slow down by as much as 100%. -If you go over your cap MCF is no longer obligated to protect the integrity of their uplink connection, resulting in some SP loss for each spawn. -Lost SP is removed from SP earned during the game first, then from your SP pool, then from learned skills which could result in fittings no longer working. -You would have a countdown before each game showing how many clones you have left before SP degredation. -There could be a wide variety of CTPs available. Some basic ones could be bought for isk that raise the amount of bandwidth that can be transfered each day. Other CTPs could be bought with Aurum that could do similar as isk ones, but also give clone uplink bonuses (faster respawn, reduced degredation etc). -CTP subscriptions could even be corp based.
The effect: -This would effectively mean that if you are a highly skilled 'no lifer' you better be able to support your game through financing your bandwidth, or not dieing nearly as much as others. Otherwise, if you die a lot, you will see your SP start to plateau. and it will start to be expensive to continue playing (and dieing). -This is effectively a progressive SP tax for dieing. -This is also an alternative to an 'active SP cap' -This could encourage the development of 'main clones' who are highly skilled and used for contract warfare, and 'secondary clones' that are cheaper, less skilled, a little less competitive, and more easily profitable due to less CTP maintenance. |
