Has CCP confirmed this? I read a few people saying that the game is being released on the 22nd.
I guess they're using the logic that everyone will have access to it and it will be a free to play game, so essentially.....the open beta is a full release.
But I'm curious to know if CCP has said anything to confim truth in that |

I haven't heard or ready anything concrete, but here's what I think is happening: Dust will go into open beta for the PS3, yes, on Jan. 22, but that's where it will stay: in beta. The full commerical release will come with the PS4, which sounds as if it will launch by November or December. |

Well it's not the official release as such, open beta is open beta BUT eve has been in open beta since 2003 and it never had an official release. If this was a disk title then it would be a different story, as you need the disk for it to be an official release, but as dust is a digital title then one could argue that although its an open beta it is being released to the general public and the open beta will seamlessly transition from open beta to whatever follows after that (full content, expansions etc). So while its not THE release, it's as good as (in digital title terms) |

Was in an interview with a dev (I think) and he 'let slip' the release was 'next month' trying to find the link now.

I think you are incorrect, and here is the proof: "Eve Online was released in North America and Europe in May 2003"
Certainly, EVE is in constant development, and new expansions are added quite often, but you have to pay a subscription for playing. And that, in most cases, indicates that the game is not being tested anymore. My point is, I think that if you'd take EVE from 2003, it would be by itself a complete standalone game, not lacking any content planned initially, etc. People were not testing this game anymore, they were playing it.
Dust is clearly not at this stage at the moment. There are many things yet to be added in order to fulfill the devs' promises and tons of bugs to get fixed. A game in such state cannot be considered officially released under any circumstances, unless it's War Z. Moreover, there is lack of clarity in Dust 514 F2P model for me, which I think about in my thread "Official release and F2P model" . And even if the question I ask in that thread is proven wrong, I surely believe there is going to be an official release. I don't think CCP would stay as quiet as now if 22nd would mark the OR date.
Oh, and please don't tell me that any MMO is constantly in open beta. Why? Because, following this logic, World of Warcraft is still in open beta. The craziest idea ever, imo.
P.S. I'm terribly sorry for the lack of links, but my phone keeps telling me that I can't use HTML input, although earlier everything was alright. I'll update my post with the links first time I get to my computer. |

A content expansion schedule does not mean the game is still in beta. Not sure how this got so confusing but it seems to boil down to people not wanting CCP to honor the AUR refund at release just because there has been an indication the last wipe is behind us.
FTR, a dev was asked in IRC which of the following still apply on the 22nd: open beta, NDA, and commercial release. The answer was yes to open beta, and nda is over. |

I suppose one important difference between 'beta' and 'release' is that removal of the word 'beta' gives the green light for official reviewers to review the game.

And like EVE, that might take several years, so enjoy!!!
I hear a rumor that in a future build--don't get too pumped as no one knows the release date yet-- that we will be getting a new rifle and they're gonna tweak the repair modules for dropsuits! I'm sooo excited!
And then in 2014, We might be able to exchange ISK with actual EVE players! But this will only be on a limited basis, as we don't want to break anything.

Look at this way: When you joined the closed beta, you agreed to the NDA. I doubt seriously CCP will send you an "official" release from that agreement. And if they don't, I think (I'm not a lawyer) you will be legally bound by it.
What about those joining the open beta who were never bound by the closed beta NDA. Let's wait and see if they have to agree to an NDA. |

I'll be interested to see if game-reviewers are as receptive to the idea that this isn't a proper launch given the "rumor" that EVE has technically been in Open Beta for 10 years now.
Also, if this isn't the launch, how many weeks head-start are you planning to give Closed Beta players (since the "rumor" is there will be no reset)? |

I don't see what the big deal is of having a release date for this game. The day CCP stops working on DUST or EVE is the day they take them off line. You should just consider DUST and EVE in open beta for life. |

God, you confuse it more and more, people. Why the fact that developers constantly add new content to a game means that the game is considered in open beta? Once again, people are not testing EVE, they've been playing it since 2003. Moreover, following this logic, EVE players are paying for an open beta... There were several cases where, yes, people had to pay in order to participate in beta. But I believe that EVE had a beta of its own, and March 23, 2003 marked the official release, when people now had to pay a sub fee in order to play. We won't have to pay anything come Official Release, true, but the game's state is going to be a lot more elaborate and cleaner than the current build. Ok, I've already said Ina previous post what I'm trying to say again, so I'll just quote it here:
Ner'Zul Nexhawk wrote:tribal wyvern wrote:Ydubbs81 RND wrote:Has CCP confirmed this? I read a few people saying that the game is being released on the 22nd.
