Yes, it's another thread about heavies. It's only my opinion, so no need to read further if you're not interested.
I've been playing fps since Wolfenstein 3D, but never competitive. I usually run through the campaign once or twice, then move on to the next. I did play Unreal tournament multiplayer for a few months. It was fun, very balanced - everybody was essentially the same, just looked different.
I've been playing MMORPG's since Ultima online. Addictive! I play them for years. I skimmed by on a few of my college exams because I played a little too much. There is no balance - only strength in your role. Different tactics have to be used against various classes strengths and weaknesses. For most classic RPG's, you give up a lot of the physical skill required to be successful and add more intellectual skill and planning. (Just a general statement - not 100%)
MMOFPS seems to be the best of both worlds. There are typically roles to play, advancement within the game, and requires some skill on both levels. This game seems to have accomplished this better than others who have attempted the same. But I think the more competitive fps players would like to eliminate the class differences for the sake of "balance."
The roles as I see them: Logi - support, revive, heal, replenish ammo, and some killing. relatively weak Scout - sneaking, sniping, hacking, flanking, and killing. relatively weak Heavy - kill. Strong Assault - Everything, Strong
If this game shouldn't have roles, then take them away and make us all assault suits with different weapons. If it should, then let the heavies be the killers they are supposed to be. I hope CCP looks at the actual stats of each role (kills, k/d, wp) to determine if they're having the effect that they should instead of listening to most of the tears here. And don't use the abilities of a select few to determine the fate of all. |

OP is a relative term. it has a different meaning to everyone. it put it in the title as an attention getter.
I like flexibility, but there is little flexibility in a heavy role. i cant think of many jobs that i have. if that is nerfed, there is little purpose in being a heavy. as a heavy, i feel i should be killing more on average than other classes and dieing less. |

Hi entrei and thanks.
I knew my opinion wouldnt be shared by everyone, so that's why I made sure to say up front that it is just my opinion. I think your example of a linebacker is perfect. If you take away even a fraction of a linebacker's power, his role on the football field becomes insignificant compared to others. as it is, if your only tactic is to try and rush through the line, then you deserve to lose. Again, this is just my opinion.
Defending an objective is fun as long as the enemy just keeps coming to you. ive also spent half of a match at an objective waiting for someone to show up. if this is all im supposed to do then ill take that into consideration while building up an assault suit. unfortunately i dont enjoy skirmish, so i guess im just screwed. i also cant defend an objective well if i cant stand toe to toe with one assault.
I think i am a fair player. i dont redline, spawn camp, and i use a move controller which is undisputably the most handicapped way to play, currently. Heavy is not the "easy" button for me, but i do enjoy the role. im not asking for buffs or nerfs, but i hope ccp is considering everything (especially specific class stats and weapon stats - like k/d ratio's, kills, costs, etc) before they nerf any of it. most of the cries that i see come from assaults that already top the leaderboards, so i dont understand what they hope to achieve by all these threads. maybe they are trying to get Exmaple Core off the list, but i dont know. |
