How can the RDV be so much more durable than a Dropship when we are actually paying for a DS? It would make more sense just to deploy troops from an RDV which has similar flight skills as your average DS pilot today. The simple fact remains that a DS is an expensive but generally useless vehicle that can drop like flies.
We need new rules of engagement, you might say 'laws of the battlefield', when it comes to Dropships. 1) Do not attack Dropships until you can confirm they have attacked 2) You may attack Dropships that fly into captured objective airspace 3) You may not attack Dropships that are picking up troops 4) Do not attack Dropships that are dropping off troops unless rule (2) applies 5) You may hack but not attack a grounded Dropship or one that has landed
I think it benefits many if we follow these rules. Pilots can get a chance to train their flight skills without much fear of unruly intervention and loss of ISK. Once they have skilled up and created decent fittings or a patch has been released that makes DS' better then pilots will have the flight skill and equipment to really help out their teams. |

Dropships were added too soon IMO; skim junction (the good version, not the orbital artillery) is the only map where they actually help. Once pilots get assists, I'll be much happier. |

I use dropships for transportation of troops but I dont see anybody doing this.
Why do people like shooting at you even if yoir not doing anything? If people hunted snipers and tanks the way they they hunt dropships...well there would be alot less snipers and tanks.
Maybe if dropships were used for evacuation of wounded troops and it had a big cross on it... |

people shoot at dropships because they spend all their time high up in the air where you almost always have line of sight on it. the pilots try to linger over objectives so their gunners can get kills, or they look for somebody to squish.
basically, they don't use them as dropships.
6 people can bail out and inertia dampen their way down without the dropship ever slowing down, then it COULD fly away and land behind a hill someplace safe, waiting for the next batch of mercs who need a ride... but no pilot ever does this. they want their dropship to be a gunship. |

True. People need to treat it like the transport choppers in bf3. |

I use mine as get in and get out ships like they should be but people still don't like that either. I got shot at all the time last build because not one like the thought that those five passengers could be four heavies and a logi. Fixing to come and take that objective whether you like it or not. |

On the "Battle Icons" Help loading screen, it defines that the RDV is a medium vehicle while the dropship is a light class vehicle, thus the medium vehicle is more durable.

You would need a heavy flight vehicle to drop a medium flight vehicle. Maybe we will have to pay for bigger rva's to drop stuff.

Nah think of it like a tug boat. A smaller vehicle that hauls around bigger ones and what not. |

I like to use them as a one way transport and dispose of it. I only use the cheapest and no more than once a battle. It can help capture and defend an objective close to the enemy's mcc before they even get a chance to cap any. |

Maybe if dropships were used for evacuation of wounded troops and it had a big cross on it... It'd certainly by nice if dropship pilots spent more time transporting troops, getting blues to objectives rather than aimlessly flying around the field trying to squish people or get their gunners kills. Granted, gunning from a dropship is admittedly more difficult than it looks, but in either scenario a dropship in the hands of a competent pilot is something to be feared. They should be shot down.
Transporting wounded troops would be something to be considered if getting a kill didn't cost the player isk, the team a clone, or both. If this game used a "dead is dead" mechanic and rescue crews weren't attached to either team and served both sides, it'd be something to consider. Otherwise, it's still an enemy asset that does more good to blues sent screaming to the void.
Granted, I'm a scrub. I'm still learning. I'm still hoping for scrub-only slap-fights. |

If I see a dropship or a tank, I swap suit and Hunt it. Both can equally change the face of the battlefield, the drop ship by dropping troops behind lines, and thanks by brute force breaking through them.
Both deserve to be destroyed as swiftly as possible |
