I love dust, and I really want some friends to pick up on this game. The problem is that either they need to buy the game to play it or play it on my ps3 as my character, which last time cost me nearly a million because they thought money was easier to get.
My thought is that we have bunkers from all of the pirate factions and rogue drones (6 bunkers, 6 different maps right there) that we could use for local co-op or versus matches and not affect the eve universe quite as drastically as we would in faction warfare planet control.
First are pirate bunkers, they let people do some 1v1 or 2v2 pvp or connect online with friends to do a private lobby. Each player that doesn't have a D514 account is given enough SP to use the tech 1 dropsuits and basic weapons beyond the militia items. This way they actually have a chance against the player with the account who most likely has months worth of SP and millions of isk.
And rogue drone bunkers, it lets a team up to 4 people try and clear a bunker of rogue drones with 2 different modes to choose. Either a survival mode where each round lasts 3-5 minutes, and if all drones are cleared players get isk and can change their fits to prepare for he next round. If there are drones remaining, the nest round continues and adds an extra minute to the round timer. The team has 12 clones at the start, and once all of those are gone the game ends. Or a second mode, where you move through the bunker killing drones and gaining isk and need to fight a boss at the end.

Although this sounds fun, no. This isn't a social game. Go play cod or halo if you want that kind of gameplay. Anyways, the game goes into open beta (basically pre-release release as it let's anyone in) and release will be free. Tell them to download it on the 22nd. Thank me later ;) |

Local... Co-op... No thank you. I want the big single sharded universe to stay. No private games (Other than corp battles for now). Co-op... Yes. And it's coming (Most likely the drones) |

The problem too with this suggestion is insentives. Why fight pirates with the risk of losing your drop suit? There aren't thousands of different items in game like other mmos to loot and there would be an issue of balancing if there was because if there were things like rare loot drops that were much better items than everything else, people would be at a huge advantage. Also in EVE there are pirates such as guristas for ratting and most of the time only fought to raise your security status. We don't have security status, we're mercenaries, we fight for money and the highest bidder.
The closest you can get to co-op is squading up with fellow corp members and fighting against others in matches.
The whole selling point for DUST is immersion. Being able to affect the course of the virtual history in New Eden, it's what made EVE such a popular and long running game. It's also what separates It from other titles.
I hate to say the same lazy counter argument that everyone else says but if you want to have what other games have, go play those games. DUST subtly hides the fact it's a niche fps, it tries to cater to console gamers but it keeps most of the basic (not really basic) systems from EVE. It's why I like it. |
