I would love it if future PvE explored different subgenres, like Survival Horror in your case. As others put it, this makes the most sense in Sleeper sites in wormhole space. The drones in this case would likely either skitter about secret pathways (send your own drones to stop spawning), or hide in plain sight by blending in with the alien-feeling architecture - best to shoot the walls when entering a new area. EDIT: I would also like it if Maken Tosch's addition were implemented as well - a fully-armed attack squad wouldn't just be a good challenge, but the interlopers would have to deal with the Sleepers as well as killing you! In my usual posting form, I offer a few enemy types to get you started. names are just placeholders.
>"Stinger" torso-sized hoverdrone that silently slides up behind its victim, stabs with a stun needle, then blasts a shotgun-like weapon to finish off the target. Watching your six is the best way to handle this enemy, as it's rather slow. >"Slicer" Nobody really knows what this drone looks like. The first moment, a search team is scanning a Sleeper pod. The next, the entire team lies dead, with deep plasma-burnt wounds oddly similar to a Slaver mauling - if the dog had Nova Knives for claws. Defend your buddy while he's scanning a construct for salvage. >"Spider" It appears that Sleeper superiority extends to stasis-webifer technology. Walk through its light-distorting "web" without enough speed, and you become frozen in time. Frozen until the drone vaporizes you, at least. Be sprinting for at least 5 seconds before hitting the "web" to temporarily break it, and have your friends ready to kill it when it comes to investigate. The web evaporates when the Spider dies. >"Crawler" Hiding in specialized pathways, the Crawler can walk on walls and prefers to land on your head, then drill clean through the top of your helmet. Send your own drones to clear out the "ducts" when you see them, or shoot it when it tries to attach to another guy's head.
RE-EDIT: Sorry Val - I messed up giving credit for the "interloper" portion, as you were responding to Maken's comment further up. Credit is now where credit is due. |
