First up, movement. At the moment, Dust 514 has a unique movement type. Not the best, but unique. It seems to be going for the arcade-y animations of general FPS games like Halo, or CoD, but then also tries to add in weight as in Killzone or Gears of War (TPS). What Dust needs is to lean one way or the other, and to get an imperfect balance. From my perspective, it needs slightly increased base movement speeds, increased turning speed, and a better GÇ£jumpGÇ¥ mechanism. I also think that characters should feel like the dropsuits they are, Heavies need to feel less clunky and more GÇ£HeavyGÇ¥, and overall fluidity needs work. As of now, IGÇÖd rate movement fluidity at a 6-7/10, and it needs to be at least 7.5 or 8 to work well.
Sound: Battlefield immersion is highly lacking. Sure, thereGÇÖs the music playing in the background, and whirring and shooting, but the missing thing is voices. In most FPS games or games overall, players cry out when shot, shouts are heard, explosions have distinct sounds, and players feel immersed and can feel the mood of a true battlefield. At the moment itGÇÖs at a 5/10 (when in a squad using mics) and needs to be at least 7/10 to be fully realized.
Please, feel free to add more constructively, and I'll try to update.
I see what your saying.
I hate to go back to the eve model, but this is a game by CCP. Eve is successful because it didn't try to be like other games. It would have been very easy for eve to try to be WoW in space in order to grab people. But it didn't, it stood on its own legs.
I think Dust should do the same. Im concerned because Dust 514 seems to be pandering to MAG survivors and refugees from other games, who seemed to be attracted by dusts difference and yet are going out there way to tranform dust into a game they used to play and is now gone. Let dust rather try to stand on its own legs. The people who like it will stay, those who don't will leave.
So many cool concepts have been lost because the devs are trying to hard to keep the present vocal elements of the community happy, forgetting that eventually these people will leave anyway. Look at all the concepts that have been lost to this idea that 'simple makes for more customers':
Drop suit resistances have been simplified down to armour and shield only. The idea of meta levels on items with progression of power and defence have been flattened to the point where they are nothing more than semi interesting footnotes. CPU and PG management is apparently pointless. SP and skills have been flattened so that our limited beta battlefields are more noob friendly. Assault rifles have been nerfed and buffed in time with the fickle mood of the community.
Dust 514 is becoming increasingly shallower as a result of the persistent mewling on this forum. Could it be that Dust is a victim of its own price modelling, as a freemium game, CCP has to encourage people to play so goes out its way to make as many people happy as possible? |
