I think its about time some of us made the choice many already have in Dust 514...
Its time to choose to constructively help CCP make this game a great experience or to try alter the mechanics so that they only cater to the way YOU like to play.
I'm choosing to help because this game can be GREAT, and I say that as a player who doesn't even really get into the spacey combat thing. I'm a big sci-fi fan (I have every Ender book Card has written) and prefer contemporary military shooters, but none of them have come REMOTELY close to pushing the envelope like this. thats a FACT.
I've been here since the second build and one thing I can say for sure is that this game has improved by leaps and bounds. It still has some features that we've yet to see and tweaks that need to be added (vehicle handling i'm looking at you) but its easily the most balanced game i've EVER PLAYED. There are some very uniquely mature people in this community as well (stand-up guys like Nova and Zion Shad come to mind) and I hope their worthy causes start to draw more attention than troll threads crying about mechanics that don't suit someone's individual playing style.
While the Dust FPS mechanics are average (hopefully to be constantly improved on) some of us need to take a hard look at ourselves. Do you want a game where you never die? Because thats sure what it seems like. No names, but I watched a guy go 22-4 recently, the funny part? On each of the 4 times he died he literally acted like the world was ending. We've all heard it "OMG this friggin lagger just killed me!" or "what? this guy headglitched me" and everyone's favorite "I just hit him with a full clip, this hit detection sucks!" yessss...the same hit detection that was just fine on his 22 kills *eye roll* anyone else see the bias I do?
I know this is a solid game, know why? Because elite players are still elite THAT'S WHY. I've seen guys that consistently put up great numbers CONTINUE to do that, but for some guys thats not enough...they should dominate like they did in MAG, BF3 or COD or KZ, the list goes on and on. its sad when people cant consider the fact that someone may just *wait for it...wait for it...* may have actually gotten the better of you. NEVER THAT. These type of players are so "leet" that should succeed in every 1 vs 1 (hell, sometimes 1 vs 2 or even 3) that they encounter and if they lose these encounters, something isnt wrong with them....OH NO, you guessed it, something is wrong with THE GAME. uh huh....riiiiight...sounds legit.
Over a year ago Cysquatch from the PFBHz told me something i'll never forget. He said "MAG is a game with some really bad mechanics that some people know how to manipulate, it doesn't necessarily make them good. It doesnt make them scrubs either, but if you take away those bad mechanics and you might be surprised."
He was right too. And I think thats where it begins and ends. Flawed mechanics have given alot of people a skewed view of how things should work. MAG's knives and shotguns? The frag rounds and M26 dart in BF3? COD? Really??? This is the quality you speak of? You cant compare this game to anything else, and I know this is going to hurt a few egos but consider the fact that your issue isnt with Dust, its with your REFERENCE POINT. While I have my fingers crossed for a spawn/grenade/mass driver fix like everyone else, CCP has earned my patience because of how they've tuned swarms (Godly when I first started) knives, the auto TAC AR issue and several other game-breakers. they've promised to make this a game that actually matters and are giving us more depth than many of us ever considered, and we've got a chance to help them do it.
So choose to help, or maybe choose to cry about every gunfight that doesnt go your way. ITS UP TO YOU. |

Good post kush agree that the FPS side of the game is currently pretty average which i really hope gets improved upon because for me no matter how much other features CCP puts in if the core stuff isnt fun to play the playerbase will struggle
im lookin forward to more things like VR Training rooms to help both newbies and practice with corp mates, corp armories to store salvage and other stuff, secondary market, weapon customization and better FW mechanics..........all these things ive posted feedback on in detail (minus the 2ndary market and armory those are self explanatory) that i hope to see implemented soon cuz those are the things i feel will keep both casual and hardcore fans engaged in the New Eden universe.
One of the biggest problems I have with CCP is their lack of participation/communication on the forums.

I will admit I thought this would be a long post complaining about all the floors in dust, I was wrong and congratulate you on a very good post.
For me this is the first console shooter I have played in years, due to using the pc for most of my fps gaming. then before dust I had not played many fps games for a while due to several reasons in RL. This I feel made me look at this game as an individual, like you have said to do. I think this may make me slightly more aware of the complainants such as "but in [insert other fps] you can do [what ever the complaint is]"
I think if we all take a step back from everything we might be able to see the bigger picture. though I will admit I will sometimes make remarks on coms about some of my deaths, but that is in the match, and I like to keep it there unless I start to notice a real trend or problem such as grenade spam.
*edit* also ^ I too can not wait for vr training or a "shooting range" as it were to try out weapons and vehicles without looking like I'm not trying to a team in a pub match when playing with these things. |

Most agreeable Mavado. Proto posted something the other day about what CCP wants this game to look like and how they want things to play and feel. Though the post got some good responses I never saw a comment from CCP to how they want things to go.
Edit: It was G slick's post not proto's. |

I like to call it "master chief" mentality. Players who were raised on a diet of pwning halo mobs in insane mode and expect to do the same against human players in an ENTIRELY different game.
In Eve the expression "Adapt Or Die" comes to play with every change to the pvp environment.
I think Dusts maxim should be "Die And Adapt".
People should just except that they are going to die, and its not a big deal. |

I think they're way too easy to use, I mow people down at all ranges, and the overheat is practically non existent. If we had a bit more overheat, a little less range, and a bit wider damage spread when we initially start firing, I think we'd be at a great spot. As is, HMG's are FAR too noob friendly. |

You and me both Numberz. Guys like us have been waiting for real VR training rooms since like...FOREVER. Did MAG give them to us? nope...BF3, KZ3, COD? Nope, no one but these guys from Iceland. I'm preaching to the choir because I know people like us want the same things. Real features that make this game great so we can shoot at each other/take over planets like civilized mercs are supposed to. Some of the other guys tho? the "blue dot force" is strong in them...too strong. I've been rolling Heavy since last build and there are rumors of a nerf, Big Deal i'm not crying about it. Whatever is best for the game. PERIOD.
Your feedback is getting noticed i'm sure. And they respond as much as they can, Just keep in mind CCP has to sift through all these mindless threads full of garbage and tears. And thats why I posted this, I feel like the Paris Hiltons (you know who you are) are starting to flood the boards with their foolishness. That crap is hurting progress. Guys like Nova (his Player Balancing Initiative thread got derailed) are trying to get stuff done but people are posting in threads about how a orbital destroyed their tank...really????
Nova Knife's PBI chatroom he created has three peope in it usually. That can't friggin happen. None of us cares for Dustmercs but Harmon was spot on about how bad reviews will kill this game, we need more people for his merc work event to help promote this game. So it gets the opportunity to become what it can be....or we can go back to playing BF3, KZ and MAG. Yup, that'll be fun. Tears/Told-you-so's are gonna flow when 400 people total are playing the game, but we have the chance to make a difference RIGHT NOW with our direction as a community. Just sayin'... |

That is the problem
We have ideas and make suggestions that seem it may alter the game mechanics in our favour yet it is needed to 'balance' the game
So lets take WBS - Can destroy a decent fitted tank, but if the WBS can destroy every type of tank no problem then why would you bother with an OB from space which requires an EVE pilot and his destroyer? You wouldnt - Essentially i see the WBS really for clearing out infantry and damaging tanks and destroying poorly fitted tanks and but not really damaging to a top tank or really well fitted tank which is where the OB and EVE pilot would come into play
Forge guns - Does more damage than a vehicle mounted railgun which isnt right at all since the railgun needs so much more PG and needs to be mounted on a vehicle to be any use
Dumbing down of proto/advanced/basic/milita - I did prefer it when each lvl of dropsuit gave you more hp with slots/PG/CPU, it gave me something to aim for and made me harder to kill as a consequence but its was the imbalance which made it all balanced, same with the weapons since you could gridn to proto weapon 1st and fit it onto a T2 suit so you went for more gank than tank - It changed the game from being a generic shooter to something different where gear also made a difference like it does in EVE but that didnt mean it was impossible to kill the players in proto/advanced gear it just made it harder and required some brain power
AV vs HAVs - Few builds ago required a group of specilized AV players to damage/kill that specialized HAV, now it takes 1 person to make him retreat and stay there, even the AV doesnt have to skill up because of the point above and can still cause significant amount of damage
Just a few examples and mostly vehicle and AV since its broken - But its turning into BF3 with shields because the vehicles got nerfed into 'ignore and useless' mode along with some broken mechanics which still havnt been fixed but yet may look like its someone QQ because it ruins how they play

The thing with this game is the more things become flattened (balanced) the more of a generic shooter it becomes. I loved the game when suits had more hp etc because it was a challenge and meant something when you got skilled upto that level, now it's more like ooo look what I have, an overpriced type I/II suit with an extra whistle or 2.
People complained about the SP and how others could get ahead of them, they could of solved that by just not allowing players with over (say) 5 mill sp to play against those with a lower amount. Now players hit the cap and more often then not get off the game. This can possibly reduce the amount of money people spend on the on things like AUR and active boosters.
Overall I don't think the stuff like fw etc alone will keep the game going, especially if the core fps mechanics are not even sorted. People hate on CoD but you cannot deny that the game works, good sights, fluid movements etc, and no I don't expect this game to be perfect. For me I hate CoD because of the people that play it, this game I don't hate but I think it's become very stale, purely because of the things they've done i.e militia nades are op etc etc. They took what was a fun game and made it just dull.

I think it is important to try and put things in perspective. We are now just days away from the Open Beta, something many of us who started this experience last Spring/Summer thought would have occurred last fall. Of course it didn't and with good reason. But now that it is here and many CEO's make efforts to deal with an influx of tens of thousands of players I look back and I find myself amazed that I have been playing a Beta for over 7 months. To me, that says a lot about the game.
The game feels somewhat stale to many because it is still so limited. Maps are limited, game modes are limited and despite the extensive customization, even some things like dropsuits, vehicles and equipment feels limited. But that does not change the fact that I have been playing the same game mode (mainly Skirmish) on basically the same 4-5 maps for over half a year. To top it all off I have had to "start over" multiple times. There are not many full games I have put that kind of time and dedication into, much less a Beta.
I know that there is still much work to be done, but I accepted that reality a long time ago...as I am sure many of you did also. I am confident the Open Beta will help in those efforts. But that in itself will be a challenge for many of us who have been here so long. This game...our game...is about to be placed under a pretty big microscope and viewed by a lot of strange eyes. That is something we need to prepare ourselves for. Sure some of you are looking to kill a bunch of n00bs, but are you also ready endure all the criticism that is sure to come as well? There have already been a lot of harsh "debates" in these forums but I think through the evolution of such discourse many have come to find some level of respect (or maybe just toleration) for those whom which we disagree. Some still are critical of various aspects of the game, but having played it so long, we feel that we are somewhat justified in those opinions. But in a few days, players with less than a couple hours playtime are going to start talking trash, and complaining about things that we have already seen move from bad to better to good. I think as a community we need to prepare ourselves for that.
I come from a large community of gamers...hundreds of players, across multiple titles. Of course with a Closed Beta only a small fraction of those players have been represented here. As a leader within that community I have worked hard to keep Dust 514 in the forefront of peoples minds and to outline its potential. And now I am spending these last few days before the Open Beta goes live, trying to prepare them for what to expect the first time they log on...to press upon them the importance of patience and resolve...to remind them that this is not your average shooter...that it is something more.
The State of the Community in Dust 514 is probably the most stable it will ever be. Going forward it will always be changing. always evolving. Sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. But at the heart of it all, we have a pretty special game...not perfect, but special. |

I disagree with the flattening aspect but its your opinion and that makes it valid. I prefer gameplay that gives subtle advantages with gear so that milita isnt crap while proto is godly. I want bang for my buck as well (more slots, shields, armor cpu and pg with each upgrade so its worth my ISK) but I think the game is better when its more skill than gear.
I like the idea of lower level queues as well but i'm not sure how they'll fit it in the EVE mythology. I hope they do though.
I agree we need more as well but keep in mind we're seeing like 30% of the game with like 2 game modes I may be an optimist but I think sights will come. In regards to COD i'm not sure what you mean by fluid. Do you mean you can sprint and swap from shooting an AR to whipping out a pistol in .2 secs? Or do you mean better graphics running at 60 FPS with no clipping/skipping? Because the former I can do without...its part of that poor reference point I mentioned earlier. To some hit detection means perfect aim while strafing while hip firing, to me its damage being counted when a round strikes the target.
the last thing you mentioned was nade spam. I hope they put them back where they were, find a better sweet spot for missiles and retune mass drivers as well. And I trust they will. |

Lets hope ccp makes something the way they were /undo the nerfs and if people start complaining than they need too get the stick out of their behinds too man up cause I DEFINATELLY!!!!!!!!! dont want this game too become a future ristic cod clone which it is infact turning out too be with these nerfs.. Thought dust was ADAPT OR DIE NOT WINE TOO GET THINGS NERFED like now they are trynna to get grenades nerfed , and they tried to get mass drivers nerfed which was very stupid i mean cmom bruh its a gun that shoots multiple grenades.. Anyway ill save my mass driver thoughts for a different thread... Im down too help this game improve ... I also have seen that ccp has infact had poor communication . I mean i asked many months ago that they should increase how many people can get into 1 match (atleast 24 vs 24) so we can test it and see how the servers handle and they didnt do that , ive been here for a while like a few builds before the E3 build and i asked for this and different faction type armor like ammar assualt , caldari heavy / galante logibro etc ....... Cause without that i mean what makes the factions unique? doesnt make sense too have every faction have the caldari assualt armor ..i also asked for racial based weapons too .. My point about ccp s they should actually take our ideas and implement too the game so it can be something veryunique that stands out granted they shouldnt take all ideas cause ive seen very crappy ones ... Anywho im down too help the gme improove in anyway that i possibly can |

If I'm wrong let me know. If you want Idea's to be discussed then post idea's with your opinion and support for it. In general this game is broke and its obvious from changes like nades that ccp doesn't understand fps game/fps players/ or even the mechanics they created.
This is sparta so wear your big girl panties
Funny story...so my niece is kinda like that too. When the other little kids dont play the games the way she likes? She kicks and bites and cries and does everything to disrupt the game being played. even gets mad at the teacher if the game she likes to play isn't chosen.
