So I loaded up a Scout suit with militia scanner stuff today to see how it would help my team. Not at all. One Range Amp, one Precision Enhancer, and One of those thingies that decrease your own signature. I should have been able to spot at least all the assaults and heavies around me, if not also the scouts, and yet I got nothing. What is the point? What am I missing? |

Im guessing its because you used militia stuff and were not sufficiently skilled.
Skill ranks do count in this game. |

The base range of the scout suit is 25 meters and at base skills it is barely able to detect assault suits at all. Dropsuit command at level 3 already means that you can't detect assault suits anymore.
That means if you're looking for something comparable to a wall-hack you're looking in the wrong direction.
However, if you're sitting around a corner with a heavy approaching you'll have a good chance of detecting him before he turns the corner. |

No that was the active scanner (equipment) which worked, just not in the way CCP wanted it to. |

I setup a dragonfly suit with the scanner range mods whose name eludes me. The minimap was lighting up targets a little over 100m away based on range to a letter I oriented on. This type of stuff could be quite useful for a squad. |

Recon is a very underused part of the game. If you liked speccing into scan modules you should get the active scanners that fit on vehicles. Fun detecting people 100 meters away :D especially helps heavies track down people. |
