Silly In Game Description: Originally used in deep space mining operations, the N1-X Plasma Charge has since become a staple of the modern battlefield due to its nearly unmatched destructive power. Contained within each ion enriched frangible outer shell is a nucleus of high energy plasma, contained within a micro-scale shield containment system. Upon losing contact with its power supply, this energy field quickly deteriorates, allowing the plasma to rapidly expand, consuming the outer shell and creating a super-energized cloud of gas reaching temperatures up to 500,000-¦ C. Needless to say, this is sufficient temperature to melt through most personal armor, in addition to causing significant damage to vehicles.
Appearance: Resemble a truncated icosahedron with a small hexagonal energy pack attached to one side, which is removed prior to throwing. Upon detonation, the device forms a magnificent ball of plasma, surrounding whatever surface the device impacts. This ball would last for roughly 3 seconds, at which point it would fizzle out of existence.
Behavior: After priming, the plasma charge has a five second fuse, at which point the internal containment field dissipates and the device detonates. This can be brought about prematurely by a sufficient impact, such as the device being thrown against the ground, an installation, an enemy.
Effects: Primary effect is creating an extremely short-lived miniature star, bathing the target in immense amounts of heat. As a fun side effect the burning plasma is exceedingly bright, effectively blinding those who look at it. It also sticks to the target it impacts, thus focusing the energy onto a small area.
Fitting Info (Standard): Take up roughly 1.5 the CPU a PGU of a Militia Locus. Burn time of 3 seconds, fuse of 5. Damage on armor of 50 hp/second. Damage on shield of 5 hp/second (both damages are at this value when charge is in contact, with a rapid drop off). Exceedingly bright at close range, enough to glare a good portion of the screen. Noticeable point of light at longer ranges.
Opinions? I would love having something like this in game (Imagine it like a plasma Molotov cocktail).

Possible... radius? Also, increase the amount of time it lasts if you want it to be effective. 150 damage on armor is barely enough to take out a scout and a logistics. Instead, decrease the damage to 30 or so and instant drop shields due to electromagnetic field of the 'star'. Then, make it last for roughly... 5-6 seconds? There could be damage and time variants.

Well the main point is that it isn't able to do signifigant damage to shields, fitting with the current mythos of plasma being weak against shields (I think). And the longer burn time at the same damage could be feasible, maybe 4 seconds (totaling 200 damage).
Edit: A short burn time with higher damage would accomplish the same purpose, in addition to being more in accordance with the properties of plasma. 3 seconds of 75 hp/sec on armor and 10 hp/sec on shields would be mcuh better. The drop off would still be quite small, with the plasma charge doing nothing at roughly 3 meters in radius. |

In addition to the aforementioned effects, the rapidly expanding plasma could superheat the surrounding air, thus creating a shockwave that is able to at least for a moment deafen nearby enemies. |

A plasma mini bomb that both blinds (to a certain degree) and blows out your ear drums (to a certain degree) and acts like a small smoke screen all at once.
I think this is the answer every smoke/flash grenade enthusiast wanted. +1
Also, I think it would be really interesting to see a bunch of these light up the ground in the dark variant maps. Sky bursts would scare off some unwanted dropships. |

ignore your exact details I think I would like a Molotov cocktail and flash rolled into one, minus the sticky part of course. That would be a useful tool if its damage was fairly low or constant over a short period of time and the flash wasn't too crippling. it would be an effect weapon to disorient a player, the shock of a flash and loud noise followed by a health loss would send most people scattering.
However I am adamantly against sticky grenades of any type so that wont do. this could be a uniquely dust weapon though a mixture of Molotov and flash into one neat package, ahh the possibility. |

Its safe to assume he has no idea what those numbers actually mean, but its his idea that should be looked at not his exact numbers. |

Lore-wise, plasma is the domain of hybrid energy/projectile weapons. The assault rifles and shotguns we use in DUST are both plasma technology. They hit shields and armor roughly evenly, and both operate well below the level of solar plasma, envelopment in which is best compared to being inside of the kind of thermonuclear reaction you get from a hydrogen bomb (because that's exactly what it is).
That said, the idea of an incendiary grenade with a "flare" function is at least interesting, and fits well with the "sci-fi battlefield staples with a twist" thing CCP seems to be going for with its brain-scrambling plasma pistols and poison dart-spewing SMG's. |

The corona of the sun is 1 to 3 million degrees Celsius. The core, where fusion actually occurs, is much hotter, at about 15 million Celsius. Nuclear reactors operate at around 5 million degrees. 500,000 degrees is within reason for a portable nuclear fusion device millions of years in the future. It doesn't really matter in any case, I just wanted to defend my reasoning. |

I appreciate all of the feedback, and now realise that a 'sticky' component would probably not work well with this idea. However, a Plasma Molotov cocktail if sorts would be very interesting to see used, in addition to the proposed secondary effects. |
