So, new player to Dust. I really like the concept of the objective/team based game. I am not new to fps and do pretty well with Killzone 2 and 3. My frustration is aiming, subsequently leading to a lot of dying. The forums have been useful for setting up a dropsuit for armor/speed/shields and it looks like I am generally on par with other players for those issues. I am finding it extremely difficult to get on target with the AR or SMG. Any tips on ps3 dualshock controller settings that might help? I am down to zero sensitivity for the axis controls, which helped some. I have not really experimented with the dead zone settings. At medium to long range I cannot seem to put enough bullets on target before I am killed. This is something I am not used to. Any ideas, or am I just a poor noob player that needs to put more time into a game that may be more challenging than most to get used to?(go ahead with snarky comment on noob player, but we all start somewhere) |

Make sure your weaponry is at 5, same for mechanics. Add a light complex damage mod to your high slot for your AR. It helps to drop to a knee and aim your AR down the sights. Use cover and only stick your head out to fire or look around. Stick with a blue mob of players so you have someone watching your back. Don't go lone wolfing. hang in there, you'll get better. |

When I started I had this feeling of rarely hitting, i feel your pain. As far as technical stuff...
Make sure aim assist is on in the settings.
The iron sights are tuned in this game to be a bit lower that I am used to, so aim for the head and it often seems to hit their chest.
When wounded your gun shakes more, so if your shields are gone, you don't really aim anymore. If you start shaking, thats the sign to hide.
Strategic possibilities...
Try to get closer. The profile system let you walk up behind unaware opponents pretty easily. Just put some point in drop suit command and walk (resist the urge to run everywhere) behind people, tracking them from cover, then unload.
Switch to tactical AR for a while? The scope will help you feel more secure landing hits and semi auto will give you practice lining up shots. It does seem to be inferior from a dps perspective, so just try it for training purposes.
Or go short and try smg for a while. The stalking skills from training on smg are very useful for AR people and its a better sidearm than pistols, IMO. |

If you can I recommend to switching to keyboard and mouse, as it is a superior input method. Just hang in there, skills come with practice. |

I feel K&M is much more precise, but it also demands better skills since the auto aim seems to be much less generous. I've definitely had some of my best rounds with K&M, but I would caution that if it doesn't fix OP like a magic bullet, it might be worse. Move almost feels like a best of both worlds, if it wasn't for turning being so slow. |

Set sensitivity to max (100). It'll be harder now, but pay off later. You might be screwed by "good" forum advice. Most of it is bad. The best way to get better is just to play more. Play every day for an hour or two, and in a few weeks you'll be much better.
Don't go with a no skill weapon. If you use a weapon that's hard, you'll get better. I <3 scrambler pistols, but the range nerf is >.<. I suggest that you stick with the AR. Use exile or basic AR, not militia.
edit: you need KLO to make pistol a primary weapon imo. I tried the basic/militia, and it didn't have the dps needed to finish some targets. The extra few bullets will help a lot too. You can drop adv+ suits with KLOs. You need to get head shots too. It's 450% damage to shield and 350% damage to armor for a head shot if you have pistols. |

What may be a problem, that i'm not seeing mentioned here. Is that the assualt rifle and SMG don't actually shoot a projectile that is affected by time or gravity, therefor you do not have to lead your shot like in most other shooters. When the cursor turns red and you pull the trigger your bullets are gonna hit. anything else won't. Not sure if this is the problem or not but i thought i'd mention it :)
Keep the faith.
