 Because its the same maps, just with different objective layout, or a change like MCCs in Ambush.

 My bet is that they will be two refined maps based on the 3 "game modes" they added over a Week end not that long ago.
 Those were fun ! The one point map was a damn rampage

 Skirmish 1 > skirmish 2
 
 I hope a new build comes with the open beta, and I hope it has at least 2 new game modes because skirmish and ambush are boring, generic modes.
 
 Edit: except for skirmish 1.0 that was better. But I guess we test what CCP wants us to test.

 I think they are going to implement some of the game modes that we previously tested. Like "one and only skirmish", objective crunch skirmish or that amush mode with 2 MCC's avaible as standard spawnpoints.

 At least some sort of variation is finally introduced! I have a subtle feeling they will implement several new features as well between now and 22nd through daily downtimes.

 I don't see how these count as new "modes" assuming they're the ones we tried a few weeks ago.
 
 If you asked someone how many game modes they have in Dust right now, they'd say two: ambush and skirmish. How does adding a map where there's only one capture point or an MCC in ambush count as an entirely different mode? If that's the case, then we have four modes now: ambush, the map with three objectives, the map with four objectives, and the map with five objectives, but as we all know, those skirmish maps (despite having different numbers of nodes) are all still the same type of game mode.

 I wasn't actually talking to you, but yes, I went back and read the post by CCP here and it does say "game mode variations" so I guess they aren't talking about entirely new modes (though depending on the definition of "variations" they're using, they could be).
 
 The servers are apparently up though, so I guess we're about to find out.
 
 I should add that this focus on variations to already stale modes makes me less excited about the game in general.

 They said new mode variations, not new modes. This means variations on the existing types of games available. :)

 I don't consider hotfixes to be a focus - by definition hotfixes are minor changes to code. Expecting hotfixes to add major content will lead you to heart break every time as they aren't intended to make you excited. They fix things, or make tweaks, only.
