I have heard the pros and cons of various skill point accrual systems. However, I feel these all cater to either a more hardcore player base, or tend to the casuals. Since we all want a little diversity to improve the overall depth of Dust 514 I propose the following for SP accrual.
The skill cap should be linked with total time the game has been live. Let me explain.
This would mean a total cap over the course of time. So people who just get into the game after it has been out for a year, have the opportunity to "catch up" with the more veteran players.
So lets say every day at downtime the SP cap gets upgraded by 20k (insert balanced sp number here). So in a years time that total is ~7.3 million SP. Once you hit that cap, rewards from active skilling stop and you only get passive SP. The following day you have another 20k to earn and so on.
Say you are gone for a week on vacation. You can then make up those 20 games by playing your kitten off for 10 hrs straight on a weekend.
The merits to this system would keep people from gaining too much of an SP advantage while allowing newcomers a chance to make up for lost time.
Now you may think WHAT ABOUT SKILL BOOSTERS!!! Well they would still take into account the lifetime cap. However, people who have less time on their hands, which IMO are those who will be spending RL money anyway, would shorten the grind. At the same time, it would be wise to use shorter length boosters. (in the long run earning more money for CCP)
Passive SP system and its boosters would be unaffected by this active skill proposal.
TLDR; In summary, this would allow those players who play every day the ability to constantly have the instant gratification of SP, while also allowing those who don't have the option to play over weekends and during more intense gaming sessions the option of staying competitive. Lastly this would allow newcomers to DUST514 the opportunity and the means to create an even playing field through dedication and perhaps a little RL money spent.

So day 1 would be 20k cap, day 2 would be 40k, day 3 60k, etc? If so, how would that stop people who play all day from pulling way ahead by the end of the month? |
