I build custom gaming rigs and an ssd in a ps3 won't make a blind bit of difference. |

Major Assitch wrote:Well, you know....that's what I always thought too. This forum had me convinced otherwise, when several people here made comments on how much better a SSD performed in this game. Some of them a couple weeks ago were swearing to benefitting from an SSD by as much as 12 seconds. I found it difficult to believe but they were all quite convincing.
I actually never had any desire to get a SSD for PS3 until reading those threads praising the improved performance. Just never saw the need!
They think ssd is better because ssd is faster than stock ps3 hdd, But if you were to put two ps3's side by side (one with ssd and one with 7200rpm/hybrid hdd) and simultaneously run them they would run exactly the same.

Also I got my PS3 installed with a 300Gb SSD.
Dude, you may have a 300gb ssd that costs more than its worth (in excess of $4000+ for high end) but at the end of the day if you put it up against a high rpm hdd or hybrid you wouldn't know the difference. I've been building AND programming pc's for 20+ years and ssd's (especially in consoles, if you can get it to work) are no better than hybrids. |

I build custom gaming rigs and an ssd in a ps3 won't make a blind bit of difference. aaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahhahahaha you sir are wrong. any time you load textures (thats most of the time in the unreal engine) the ssd beats out stock every time. its slightly less critical this build, but my 1st gen ps3 with ssd still loads in faster then the newest stock ps3 by like 30 seconds and texture pop and "lag" are less noticeable(a lot of the "lag" in the last build was actualy waiting for your hard drive to spin up and send data). to OP I would not suggest swaping harddrives all the time you are just adding aditional wear to your ps3 and you will eventualy just get tired of it, it doesn't help enough any more to make it worth continuously swapping back and forth. just get a 128-256, WTF do you need more space for right now any ways?? if you must have the space save up or dont bother to swap. thats my recomendation.
If you read my other posts on here, nowhere did I say ssd is not better than stock, of course ssd is better than stock! But ssd is not faster than high rpm hdd or hybrid. If you put a hybrid and ssd together both running, there will barely be any difference AT ALL. Extortionate prices for an ssd vs a hybrid that is within everyone's price range that gives 99.9% the performance of an ssd.....which one would YOU choose? |

All I see here is a diverse difference of multiple opinions, I didn't chime in to insult anyone or prove anyone wrong, I just gave my opinion that's all. Peace? |

Gaechti wrote:@Heinz: Sony / PS3 does not support HDD with more than 9.5mm Height. AFAIK the only limit that exists.
@all: I would recommend a Hybrid drive. Same loading speeds as with SSD, but more storage room for a better price.
The SATA transfer rate is limited by SATA1 protocoll on PS3 and the transfer rate will NOT improve with a faster drive. However for seek time, PS3 will take full benefit of SSD/Hybrid.
In dust 514, with SSD, you load aprox 15secs faster into game. Marketplace / Fitting runs smoother and less lag / texture popups.
Ever noticed when you load into a new game, the war barge, and some people are running arround already? Those got SSDs
In XMB you get faster Icon loading.
So basically what you're saying is supporting what I was saying in my previous post in this thread, but I was made to look like an ass and was accused of not knowing what I was talking about by various individuals here.
