I build custom gaming rigs and an ssd in a ps3 won't make a blind bit of difference.
oopps sry I missed that you said 7200 or hybrid, yes you wont see much of an improvement after an upgrade from stock.
ignore the rest of this unless you want to know the benefits from stock
aaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahhahahaha
you sir are wrong. any time you load textures (thats most of the time in the unreal engine) the ssd beats out stock every time. its slightly less critical this build, but my 1st gen ps3 with ssd still loads in faster then the newest stock ps3 by like 30 seconds and texture pop and "lag" are less noticeable(a lot of the "lag" in the last build was actualy waiting for your hard drive to spin up and send data).
to OP I would not suggest swaping harddrives all the time you are just adding aditional wear to your ps3 and you will eventualy just get tired of it, it doesn't help enough any more to make it worth continuously swapping back and forth. just get a 128-256, WTF do you need more space for right now any ways??
if you must have the space save up or dont bother to swap. thats my recomendation. |

Some of them a couple weeks ago were swearing to benefitting from an SSD by as much as 12 seconds. I found it difficult to believe but they were all quite convincing.
I actually never had any desire to get a SSD for PS3 until reading those threads praising the improved performance. Just never saw the need!
I didn't belive it either but I had a spare ssd laying around and it sounded like a fun project, worth it! That said if you already swapped drives I don't think ssd is that much of a boost over a good fast STD HDD |

They think ssd is better because ssd is faster than stock ps3 hdd, But if you were to put two ps3's side by side (one with ssd and one with 7200rpm/hybrid hdd) and simultaneously run them they would run exactly the same.
This but compared to stock its like night and day |

Heinz Doofenshertz wrote:One issue with just sticking a higher speed drive in there is sony itself says that the ps3 may not support all 7200rpm drives, they don't say why, my guess is power draw, but if you don't download tons of stuff a small ssd, or a 5400 hybrid will show a marked difference is speeds.
yea probably power requirements there is a marked difference in power consumption between HHDs of the same size. |
