I saw some screenshots of what the next Unreal Engine is capable of doing. Rumours have it that the next gen consoles will be able to do this in real time. These renders of the Mass Effect suit would be PERFECT for the Assault suit on a PlayStation 4. http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13958
Here's hoping that CCP give the graphics engine a good overhaul when the PS4 is released!

Indeed and with more memory who knows what they can accomplish once they kill off the PS3 client after a sufficient number of dust 514 players shift over. |

By the time they port this to the PS4 they'll be porting it to the PC, and we can forget about being held back by console hardware limitations. |

I heard that Ps4 supports 4k resolution. My eyes will hurt again until it will get use to it. |

At least the PS4 memory is going to be sufficient enough to play more games though.
I am rather amazed how well console development has been with only 256 mb (not gigs but mb) of memory on hand shared between both process and graphics chip (thus more like 125 mb memory on the ps3) has still consistently made PC games on Console look nearly as good.
What I am really ashamed though the continuously increasing demands for better end hardware PC side with no efforts on downsizing. I mean here I am with 24 gigs of memory, 6 gb/s hdd xfer, 2 sli'ed cards for a total of 1 gig of memory and enough procressor power to nearly put my i7 to shame and yet I can barely run planetside 2 at 'acceptable' graphics level. Acceptable being a term that if you lower the quality of the game it actually turns into a disadvantage. |

Technically:

Both the GGDR3 and the XDR memory are pretty fast, and an often-used trick (also in Dust) is to stream content from disk as-needed instead of just loading everything. This is a large part of why you have texture-pop-in in games. |

Agreed, this is also why an SSD works well with a PS3...
I wonder however how close this is to using virtual memory and how much faster virtual mem would be with an SSD

Listen, s soon as my show is done, everyone should understand how unreal works as I will go through everything anyione can use for free to make dust 514. Seriously. And you will understand how when the ps4 comes out dust will just run at higher poly count count. Unreal 4 renders 15 million polys at once. It tessilates between the low and high poly model, pushes past the weakness of normal maps.
Dust will jsut go, BOOM, pretty. You'll see the models as they looked in zbrush instead of low poly normal map tricks.
Get ready, for you who aren't in the insudty and have no idea what I'm talking about, just, get ready, you have no idea what your getting into. There is a live demo of it runing on eve at fanfest. And that's like the bottom of the barrel of what it can do.
The current workflow on video games, which I will be teaching for free soon, sorry college. You'll see, it's awesome,we aren't going to have to wait a day past ps4's release to see a new prettier dust. Just by ploping it into unreal 4. Some advanced GPU can't even force this effect in eve already, it doesn't quite work, but it's still impressive how fast our gpus are getting. Dust has nothing to worry about, it's future proof. If you don't believe me, go educate yourself. |

Your eyes won't be bothers by the little specks of pixels. At least for me it's easy on the eyes. I can't believe how hard looking at an old 480p tv makes me eyes. You can see the colored squares for gods sake. ow. |

The reason is partly due to Planetside 2's engine being completely new, made for EverQuest 3, and essentially being field tested in Planetside 2 for the first time. That said:
useroptions.ini Changes for Good FPS Ultra Settings Copy+paste this over your Render settings in your useroptions.ini files located in your PS2 folder.

I wonder however how close this is to using virtual memory and how much faster virtual mem would be with an SSD new ideas for my next pc build or possible just next HD Yeah, I left out the suggestion to use an SSD to get faster streaming - it reportedly works, and should technically free up the SPU faster (unless engine has dedicated an SPU for streaming stuff, or is constantly streaming something). Disclaimer:I dont have an SSD in my PS3 - but all other computers here do
If you're building a new PC, I'd suggest going for an SSD if you can afford it, both for speed and quietness. If you need storage, consider a Hybrid drive, a NAS or using both SSD and regular harddrive to get what you need. Also add as much RAM as you can - games and programs should generally be able to utilize up to 4 gig (a lot of software is still not able to really use more due to old code, being 32bit and other sillyness), so having e.g. 8 gig would allow your main program all it can want, while not infringing on OS and other programs. |
