IMHO, CRUs are an under-realized asset in Dust. At current, they are at best static spawn beacons and at worst death traps camped by the most opportunistic of red dots. I'd like to propose that they get some attention.
First off, how about spawning inside of them? I'm not asking for a communal team interior, just a place where I can access my fitting screen and maybe the overview map. I'm not even asking for an exterior view, though maybe camera drones could be a nice upgrade (turrets are another potential upgrade though there will be more on this later). There is a lot of wasted potential in the CRUs (and all structures) as we have them now.
I also want to be 100% clear that I am NOT asking for 100% complete safety. CRU's can be either destroyed or hacked regardless of if they are occupied or not. However, if they are hacked while occupied, they need to be hacked twice. The first time is to initiate the shutdown sequence for the CRU, interior life support is one of the first systems to go. If the first hack is successful, you get your cookie points for the hack and any occupants remaining inside begin dying. Instead of circle to respawn or square to call for help it would be circle to exit the CRU and square to call for help (which would cause the CRU to flash and maybe sound a frogsiren). If the occupants don't leave the CRU, they suffocate (no cookie points for you, lol@you for thinking you'd get some). The second hack would be bringing the CRU back online for your team (similar to what we are all familiar with now, cookie points and all). CRUs would still be able to be destroyed the same as we are all familiar with now as well, occupied or not. If an occupied CRU is destroyed, the player responsible for destroying it would get the cookie points for destroying the CRU as well as cookie points for killing each of the occupants.
This would lead CRU's to being a more secure place for a forward spawn which would increase their value on the battlefield. Drop Uplinks on the other hand provide no safety outside the fact that they can be custom placed by their owner (so I'd recommend you get good at hiding them).
Lastly, I think there should also be an option for more of a high altitude aerial insertion. Yes, we have the option of dropping out of the MCC, though TBH, all this does is place you behind your redline under the MCC. There should be some kind of mechanic that allows for actual HALO insertion (whether it is a cannon that fires you into the sky from the MCC or a passing C130 equivalent or true orbital insertion similar to what is seen in the opening video). The aerial insertion should allow for you to be able to place your landing where ever you can land without the need for a visible spawn beacon (like the drop uplink). The downsides to this insertion should be that you can sustain fire while descending in addition to the fact that it is obvious to all who can see, that you've fallen from the sky GÇ£over thereGÇ¥ |

Kinda like, kinda don't. Might get really really hard to deal with (coding wise) when they're able to be dropped from the sky by Commanders. |

Well, once we can place our own CRUs, I am thinking that we'd be getting multiple tiers of them (just like everything else so far). CRU's of various quality could be worth an increasing amount of ISK. Think of it like this:
Standard: Basic CRU that we all know. Add to it the ability to spawn inside of it (give it an occupancy limit of 4) as well as being able to access your fitting and the overview map. Cost 1m ISK Advanced: Occupancy limit increased by 4, EHP increased by 50%, add a customizable main turret. Only the turret gunner can see what is going on outside and even then they can only see what they can see from the perspective of the turret. Cost 2.5m ISK Prototype: Occupancy limit increased again by 4, EHP increased again by 50%, add a couple of customizable secondary turrets (in addition to the customizable main turret), add camera drones. Cost 5m ISK
I imagine the camera drones would provide an "over the CRU view" similar to how things look while inside a bunker in MAG. I don't see that view being the default though, you would need to toggle to a monitor while inside the CRU to get a view of what was going on outside.
As I said in the OP, I am of the opinion that CRUs as well as all of the Structures of Dust are under-realized assets on the battlefield. |

I like your ideas, with some tweaks I think it would be a great add. I can't tell you how frustrated I get on the ambush maps. I respawn right infront of red dots, drives me crazy! Really upsetting especially when your drop suits run you 25k a pop. And you got red dots spawn killing you... Something needs to be done about it that's for sure.
Oh and btw, DropShips are the aerial insertion... |

Dropships have the ability to have a CRU fitted to them, however, I don't feel that they are truly an "aerial insertion". Dropships could be seen as being more akin to APCs from MAG (which were mobile spawn points). |

The main thing is being able to spawn in safety
The CRU should do that and with it having 4 sides you have 4 exists and be able to take your time to pick where you will spawn
Camera drones tho are a must on any CRU because i want to see where i spawn and if i will get raped, as it is now you have black screen and can be killed before you leave the black screen

IDK, I agree with your first statement though I would reword it to read "The main thing is being able to spawn while not in immediate peril"
I disagree with the camera drones being a must on all CRUs, though I could see there being a peephole camera on the doors for CRUs without camera drones (which would be similar to the camera drones in that you would need to swap to the monitor for that camera). |
