So as in EVE you can fit whatever weapon on whatever suit as long as it meets the fitting requirements.
I have been using assault rifle on a heavy suit with much success, but there are a couple of things I wanted some clarification on:
The drop suits do not give bonuses to weapon types, right? At least my Skinweave Heavy doesn't, I don't think. Do other suits give particular bonuses to damage of fitted mods etc. rather than their base stats which are affected by skills.
The heavy drop suit has space for a Heavy weapon but I decided to put my Light weapon in the slot to seemingly no detrimental effect. However, in the show info bit on the right of the fitting screen the weapon now comes up as H, not L... Do I need an L or H damage mod?

That's right. You can mix and match however you like. The only weapons that are suit specific are the Heavy Machine Gun and the Forge Gun, which only the Heavy suit can use. Otherwise, run with whatever fits your play style best.

You need the damage mod that corresponds to the weapon type, not the slot type. For instance, an assault rifle in an H slot still uses a Light weapon damage mod, despite what that fit readout is telling you. |

Brilliant. I have good skills in assault rifles at the moment, but the Skinweave Heavy's Armor is really nice. |

I believe there are some buffs but the only one I'm pretty certain of that isn't listed in the suit stats is that logi suits give a buff to hack speed. Scouts have better movement speed, sprint speed, stamina and stamina recovery, as well as massively faster shield regen. |
