First real post on these forums for me, I only got involved in the Beta a few weeks ago when I went out and bought a PS3 just to play it. (long time Eve Player). Ok so, while awaiting my application to be processed (C'mon Zion TCD, I think you need more directors) I am out playing pub games more or less solo. Here's the situation as I see it.
1) it seems the majority of people playing don't give a rat's a$$ about working for WP (or wins for that matter) as everybody is capped out in an hour and a half. This has the effect of providing little to no incentive to go after Null Cannon caps. (I play skirmish 99% of the time)
2) since there is little reason to risk yourself attempting to cap, a minimum of 1/4 of each team is up around the outside of the 'bowl' which consititues each map, sniping. Sniping plays a role in this game, but without any real need to assault positions it becomes a KDR stat pad-fest.
3)The more people that snipe, the less are out fighting, which means if your side is losing your going to lose that much worse which...
4)Causes still more to either head to the hills and snipe or just stand around behind the redline waiting out the match to get their welfare check of ISK for playing.
5) CCP has done away with all the maps with the 'Urban' type terrain (the map with 5 Null's, don't know the name) which imo favours solo Assaults/scouts on the ground. Open terrain is dominated by snipers in high positions or organized 4 man squads who have any idea of what they're doing.
In short, the game play in Pubs has taken a serious dive due to some of the decisions CCP has made (reduced maps in rotation, hard SP cap that is easy for anyone to obtain, 'welfare' system of ISK gain)
C'mon CCP you've had access to the most exploitative player base known to any game (Eve) and should be able to predict the effects your decisions will have on the game/meta-game. Failing that, you need to notice these problems and start making the minor adjustments and tweaks to correct them. This game has a lot of potential, and I enjoy playing it, however part of that enjoyment is going after those rewards. Playing it just for the sake of playing it isn't always enough
A) ISK payout based on performance and success/fail. Players want to feel like what they do counts. (right now KDR is the only metric/reward that is a challenge) B) Reduce SP gain in some way so that we all aren't capping out. Diminishing returns works wonders, Keeps the casuals from getting melted by Proto gear on Day 3, keeps the Hard core players interested, motivated, and creating content for everyone else (sandbox fundamentals 101) C)Bring back the 5 Null Cannon maps (why are they gone anyway, anybody know?)
I'm interested to hear what everybody is thinking about these issues. |
