Yes, because I did it too. I don't need to sit around and play a pub game, and rack up ISk when i'm already getting 250k a game. |

One look at the leaderboards begs to differ.
Wonder how many of those guys have toilets built into their seats and are hooked up to an IV that provides all the nutrition and water they will need to survive.
If it wasn't for the cap, we would have a couple hundred turkeys running around with proto gear already. And by the end of the week, a thousand more. |

This is more a problem with the lack of gameplay options in the current skeletal version of the beta. The SP is a means to an ends, not the ends of your means. As we start to see more implementation of FW, null space, PVE, corp play, etc the SP will become secondary to the rest of the game... or, at least, that's the theory. |

This why we need matchmaking and map rotation, instead of a cap. That way, boosters aside, people can level up at their own rate withought fear of being murder slapped for 15 minutes by straight people that spend all of their time on the game. Perhapse even allow lower sp players to earn more when they kill someone with twice their lifetime sp. It would go the other way around, too. Think of RPGs where the xp you earn is based on the challenge you face. I don't mean something as drastic as borderlands, but you get the idea.
As a side note, as soon as CCP starts kicking the advertisement into overdrive and opens the beta, grinders may be in the minority. They also need to point out all the isk grinding it will take to stock up on the things you unlock, because that is seriously too easy to overlook withough a calculator on hand. |

Should be soft capped at 1000 sp a match. you'd play about 5 games to get 25,000 sp, and then 25 more games to get another 25,000 sp. It'd be slow but it wouldn't leave casual players in the dust. |

If only they had more than 8 per side... but you can't trade items yet. If we could slavage gear based on who we killed and then trade it there would be a reason to keep playing. Right now you can't even trade gear which is strange, but it's beta so meh |

I don't get why people have a problem with the current sp cap. Even after you hit the cap, your passive sp keeps counting. So that's still an extra 12,000 sp per 24hr period for not even playing . I think it's fine as it is. And people should not use the 'I hit the cap' reason for leaving. The whole point is to play and have fun, why quit after the cap has been hit? Do what a lot of us do, keep playing for isk, set your alts to receive passive sp and when you come to sign into an alt you will have a good amount of sp on top of what you earn while playing. Use your heads people, it's not hard to work it out. |

SP should not be the main reason people log on to play the game.
But right now it does feel like a chore.
Though I have the opposite problem to that pointed out in the OP. Instead of feeling like I need to leave when I hit the cap, I feel like I need to stay until I reach it. And only then can I quit.
Even if there are other things I might want to do after a match or two. |

Many people, myself included, have fun making progress. The SP cap works as a limit on how much progress can be made in one day. I think this is true for anything enjoyable. If there were a limit to how often one could play basketball or read for pleasure, most people would stop after the limit. Now, obviously there isn't a point where the knowledge of a book will not become part of your thoughts, but the analogy is used to show why players stop playing.
I agree that SP should not be a means to an end any more than WoW's exp is. The difference between the two games is the volume of content at the players' disposal. A WoW player could spend his entire life cooking bread if he so desired. And fortunately for him, Blizzard just released "Tales of Pumpernickel" which can cater to his every need.
In order for people to be less concerned with SP gains, we need systems or game modes in place that can experience growth outside of SP. Gaining faction points for dropsuit designs, more market place options, or fame. The goal does not matter so long as it exists.
Take care, PS |

I made a thread about an idea I had here. Go and support it or tell me I'm an idiot don't really care but I'm really getting tired of the 500 iterations of the "better sp cap" thread when SP really isn't the problem. |

Yeah but honestly their doing nothing but cheating themselves especially the 'hardcore' players... here's the reason.
With a active booster you run into 75 SP per game, 50 for the completion and an extra 25 for the booster......
75 SP x 10 games = 750 SP 75 SP x 100 games = 7,500 SP 75 SP x 1,000 games = 75,000 SP
which in retrospect can be put into players without active boosters losing a 50% reduction on all that turning the 1,000 games into 50,000 SP at the end of the period.
Personally, I play on one character and that character only, I know with the new SP cap, it mean's you can have 'alt's' to cap etc. But again in retrospect, you lose the ability of Leaderboards etc.
So pick your poison.... |

Imo a game of this nature should not have limits on what/why you play. |

People have simply gotten used to the idea of playing only for SP. That was never the intended main priority for the full game; it was only a filler objective while CCP have been getting ready whatever else they have up their sleeves. If you want to only play for SP, fine - you can easily fill 5 hours a day by capping out 3 characters. But when there is proper territorial warfare and PVE or whatever, these things will be more important and likely have better rewards because CCP will want people to prioritise them. |

I play DUST 514 because its fun. The fact that there is endless options that actually take a dedicated amount of time to the game to get is just a bonus. We could be all running around in militia gear and vehicles for all I care lol.
I'm more looking forward to working together in teams with my Corp's EvE pilots to help in FW or to assist the alliance in Null Sec Corp battles for control of sytems....This is what makes DUST great. CCP talking about long term goals such as station battles and maybe being able to fight on the larger ships in EvE are just mind blowing.

That is happening somewhat more than before. The reason (besides the concept of cap itself) is that the cap is HARD and diminishing returns no longer applies.
Now it is such a hard transition from getting 'decent' to virtually nothing. It's such a clear signal "today was done".
For example, yesterday hitting the cap was signal for me to log on alt, and after capping that doing some fitting and going to bed. |

I see the returns at 1.5k and say maybe i should just find something else to do if my Corp isnt doing anything. Dust has actually got me back into playing Mariokart wii online of all things. I tend to shy away from games that i know there is a carrot on the stick and think some of the best games ive played smoke and mirror the stick the best. I think its just the difference of the mind set of the RPG player and FPS player at work. No one is better than the other just want different things.

Well I have been playing long past the cap the past couple days. I mean, I have never played a shooter just to rank up or unlock stuff. I mean sure it is a bit more relevant in a game like this but I got no issue with them wanting to have some measure of control over how fast players can develop their skill tree.
No I play for the experience and to have fun with my corpmates just like any other shooter.
I would consider working on alts but if everyone on my team does that then I wouldn't be able to get all the alts on the corporation roster LOL. As it is, getting enough skill points to open enough slots for everyone's primary char is proving difficult enough. And when the Open Beta hits, I am screwed since Shadow Company has dozens of players waiting to play that were not in the Closed Beta. |
