I would like it if every single battle in Dust514 ends up taking part of this. I don't even know if that's the plan or not and if so, how long do we have to wait until it's implemented but it seems to me that only having this for Corp Battles means that the change in Faction Warfare is obviously minimal and slow compared to what it could be if it took in account all public battles players are fighting in Dust 514.
Now, don't ask me about technicalities but if there are thousands of planets in EVE, whenever a battle in Dust514 starts, even if not a Corp Battle, it could be attributed a planet and district. This would mean that instead of EVE players having to know beforehand where a battle would be and at what time it would start, there would be battles in a lot of places and there would be a good chance that they could just peruse over planets and districts to find all these battles going on. Or of course if players on the ground have contacts with pilots, see if they can get there quickly.
Then, i'd like if it the game would make us aware that there was a pilot in orbit. When at EVE side the player has to connect to a district, i'd like if the lady that usually warns us about objectives getting hacked and whatnot would say something like "Battleship in orbit ready for support" or along those lines. I've seen that these players can talk with the ground troops mid-battle in the corp battles so the same would happen in public matches. If this was a match with complete randoms, they'd be somewhat surprised but given the chat/voice functions, the unexpected EVE pilot could present himself and offer help. Or pilots, of course.
Now, we on the ground are mercenaries. In my view, we'll fight for anyone if we get our share of ISK. Despite what race you had chosen for your own character, in any given battle you could be fighting for any of the races. But i think that to make it interesting we should keep the EVE pilots still only able to help their own faction, with a little twist.
So, a battle would've started on a given planet and it pitted Gallente vs Caldari. You would be fighting for Gallent and a nearby Caldari pilot would find this battle and connect to the district. I think they'd need to change something but i'd like to make it an option for pilots to connect to either side of the battle. However, this could be disrupted by a Gallente pilot coming in and connecting to the Gallente side. That would forcefully disconnect the Caldari pilot although he could connect with his own afterwards.
This could give way for some curious pairings. We could get two Caldari pilots in orbit both connected to the Caldari side giving double support. You could have two Caldari pilots, one offering support to his side and the other connected to the Gallente side. You could have a Caldari pilot connected to the Gallente side and a Gallente pilot connected to the Caldari side. Or you could have a pilot of each faction connected to their own side.
This could bring about what some EVE players are wishing for, a way to toy with us. With some tweaks, it should be quite interesting. For instance, you could still choose the Warbarge Strike if you didn't want to trust the pilot connected. It could mean that people would start to recognise pilot's names and who they aligned with or how trusted they were. In order to stop EVE pilots from going berserk cheating everyone, it could limit them. It could be that when a pilot tricked the ground troops and bombed them instead of the enemy, one of two things would happen: either he'd disconnected after that first rogue orbital strike and would have to connect to his proper side if he wanted to continue in that battle or after his first rogue strike, when another squad leader would access the Off Map Support, his strikes would be flagged as dangerous.
Then we'd have to decide how would this rogue strike work. Maybe when a pilot is connected to the other side and a squad leader requests a strike the pilot has the possibility to rain down on the location of the strike caller instead of the targetted location or raind down on the targetted location but on friendlies or alternatively the spy pilot would be able to give this rogue strike to the other team. To avoid the problem of which squad would have access to it, every squad leader would get a notice saying rogue strike available and the first to pick it from the Off Map Support would pick the target and the enemy team would see their own strike rain down on them.
There would be many ways to use this and a lot of this could be dependent of what conditions you were fighting on. For example, in hisec EVE pilots wouldn't be able to connect to the enemy side's disctrict.
I don't know what are CCP plans, all i know is that Dust514 is going to evolve, and that it has much still to be done but stuff like this would sound exciting to me. |
