Hi,
So I've had my noob ass pasted up the walls for the last day or so, but it was still fun. Can anyone recomend a set of starting skills to spend the 350K on, something that will give me a decent weapon and a chance of staying alive a little longer, so I can paste your ass up the wall too?
What to go for first? Better weapons, or better dropsuit? Should I hang back on spending the skill points first, till I get some ISK to buy certain skillbooks? Thanks for your input.

Weaponry is one of the first skills to level, especially if you are going assault.

It really depends on the role you want to play on the battlefield and your ISK balance. If you can already afford it, going for T1 suit will be a better deal than those militia crap suit.
Also, make sure you have one module to repair your armor. Always usefull at the beginning. You can find some with no skill requirement in militia gear.
Dont forget to skill in Sharpshooter for your weapon. It will help you kill people faster almost as much as the weaponry skill by making your weapon more efficient at long range.
Then, skilling shield or armor modules depending on what you chose as your base defense will make you last longer. |

Sharpshooter probably isn't as important as it used to be with the iron sights everyone is using now, but a couple levels of that is probably a good idea.
I made the mistake last time of putting too much in to shields too early on. The recharge skill is good but only enough to unlock shield upgrades in the beginning (assuming you're going assault, anyway).
After that it's probably best to focus on weapons skills, but that really depends on what weapon you're using. If you're a heavy going for HMG's and Forge's you really only need 1 or maybe 2 levels at the beginning, especially with the recent boost to basic weapon damage. Same things goes for swarms. If you're using an Assault Rifle or Mass Driver you'll actually get a lot of benefit from training the skill by itself, even with basic gear. Same goes for pistols if you favor them.
I try to start out focusing on skills that don't unlock new modules and instead improve what I've got. New modules need more CPU/PG which needs even more skills or even a new suit. Once I've got a good base down I start unlocking new things. Of course if you're going to run Assault or Heavy your first priority after a few basic skills is going to be the Type II suit as they are worlds better than the type I.

Focus on defensive skills first if you're not sure. You can always use an extra 5% armor from mechanics or unlocking upgraded shield modules from shield enhancements. Once you have enough defense, try out the different militia weapons until you find one that suits your playstyle. You can also experiment with the militia dropsuits as well to find whatever works for you.
Also, at least unlock level 1 of the dropsuit type you plan on using most. The type I dropsuit is probably the biggest upgrade in terms of more slots and higher variation of playstyles.
You can always visit the training grounds on the forums for more info. |

Weaponry 5 = 10% damage mod.
Use this to pimp your fitting, it most likely is better to upgrade damage mods before upgrading the gun (depends mostly on CPU use). |

I usually start with the skills that have passive bonuses, such as Circuitry, Mechanics, Weaponry, etc. If you get your CPU and PG up you can equip better weapons and modules which can make the cheaper dropsuits more formidable. |

There are a bunch of skills that are must-haves for pretty much everybody. Things like dropsuit command, mechanics, electronics, weaponry, etc, that can benefit every role you might want to play.
I'd recommend playing around with a wide variety of militia gear & setups while you level up these skills, & by the time they're maxed out (which doesn't take too long), you hopefully will have found your calling in Dust.
I hope this helps. This game's learning curve is more of a cliff.
