Can anybody explain to me why there's an SP cap? You play a few matches and you might as well quit for the day other than grinding isk. To me this is a stupid mechanic and is really turning me off from playing. And already 3 people that I had wanting the game have changed their minds after finding out about it. I've read through the forums and all I see is talk of CCP wanting to extend the life of the game. This is the best they could come up with? Pretty dumb. I don't want everything right now, but 50 sp per match is pretty dumb when you're trying to earn over 300k sp for a skill to level up. That's a grind even at 5k per match.
I do understand that this is to keep the no-lifers from having ridiculous amounts of sp in no time, but seriously it feels like a punishment that I want to play for 3 hours. I also understand that I can go grind on another character when one is done, so the playing can continue and still be useful, in addition to the passive sp.
So I guess I'm just looking for someone to help me clear everything up to understand what the problem is and why this mechanic was chosen. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't like this idea and I want to enjoy the game whenever I play, not just for the short time I'm actually helping my character out. Also, what is the cap? I thought I saw mention of 25k? I really feel that if this cap must persist, it should be more around 100k instead.Or maybe just split up the game modes to have their own cap, while all the game modes together total 100k sp per day. Thanks for reading, looking forward to some feedback to clarify |

I'm not saying this to be an A-hole or anything (I censor myself for the kids), but there have been about a hundred other posts about this topic including ideas on how to fix it, mathematically worked out total SP amounts, etc etc etc. I'd suggested looking around a bit. |

Initially, it was going to be full passive SP, people complained about not feeling like they advanced in the battle, so they split the exp in half, half of your maximum is passive, half active.
There was much joy in the world, then people noticed other people doing better than them, running in proto suits, and gust generally dickery, so they complained to the powers that be and eventually the active sp was capped on a weekly cap. All was good for a while.
People started complaining about not having any reason to log in after hitting the cap, so the powers that be reduced it to a daily cap.
Now, people are complaining about having to log in too much to get their sp, or that they feel they arn't getting enough.

I think they should add a 50% rolling cap.
half of what you didn't earn the day before gets added to the top of your current cap, but it only rolls forward once. |

Thanks for the quick responses. Much appreciated. Kind of expected about 4 trolls by now. And no worries polish, there was no A-holishness After reading these posts I've relaxed a little and can see what the deal is. Just want it changed lol. But I will look around for sure and hopefully we can get a better option put in place through a collection of ideas. |

Or they could add a weekly cap, so that you had the option to play the game every night, or if you say have a job, a GF, a social life and other interests beside Dust, you had the option of playing less frequent, longer spells and not getting massively left behind.

50 sp is silly. I think the cap should limit you to 2000 sp a match. It's still almost nothing but 50 is laughable :P
also some sort of carry over cap, becuase I really enjoyed the weekly cap over the daily cap, so something inbetween is needed imo |

The weekly cap worked great for me. I was able to get my skill points in with time to spare. |

I think the SP cap may give way to lifetime-SP-based matchmaking. If not, it really, really should.
Seriously, how many people have enough free time on this game without school, a job, or working to accel at the former two? Let the grinders grind. There's only five levels on each skill book, each of which unlock an over priced item that is hardly any better than the one unlocked on the previous level. If I get gunned down repeatedly by some guy in proto gear, then fine. Its no worse than waltzing into the middle of five tanks or spawning in front of 2 people with their mass drivers pointed at your back. This game is luck of the draw. Sometimes, those guys are my team mates and I can barely get one kill in before the enemy reservers are depleted or their MCC defeated. Sometimes I spawn at the end of a losing match with zero time to play it. If I'm unwasted instantly by hardcore gamers, so be it. They've played long enough or well enough to have earned it. Without caps, I can do the same an catch up.
If CCP wants players to play longer, then they should make more content, I think we've thrown enough money at this free game for that. |

Probably because the weekly cap had twice weekly skill points as now.
EDIT: I thought the weekly cap was previously 400k. I thought I read that somewhere. It sure felt like that, considering I could get about 3x 174k skill upgrades before... apparently it was always 27k times 7...wierd... |

I'm in the camp of WP=SP is not capped at all. If I've done good and made 2k wp I deserve 2k sp after cap. If I've done poorly and made 150 wp I deserve 150 sp. I think the cap is good except for inclusion of wp. |

I couldn't agree more with you. I've played other great PS3 FPS games like Killzone 3 and I feel that Dust gameplay is very hard for the new guys. I barely fire my weapon before i get killed in the skirmish or ambush... :( |
