One of my main issues with dust isn't the gameplay or the blueberries or the spawning or whatever else people bring up.
The reason I made this topic is because I'm annoyed with how little I see of the different weapons that this game has to offer. For instance, so many people use the regular Assault rifles and it's rare to see the tactical, burst, or breach rifles being used.
I don't see any "perfect imbalance" in this game. What I mean is that players only use the one weapon that is better than the others because...it's just better. This also means that I don't see any way for the other guns to be better because they're used in a different way.
Take the shotgun for instance. How many times have you been killed by a gun with a proto shotgun? I'm guessing hardly ever because why use that one (or even skill into shotguns for that matter when even the militia can take most regular infantry out with one shot?
What about the modules for having more stamina or faster hacking? These don't exactly have a lot of benefits compared to the other low powered modules like armor and shield delay. I mean, why use these when you can equip more health and last longer in combat instead of risking lower health for a shorter amount of time to do something? ______________________
Getting back to what I initially said about variety, it's like there are only a few good options for each dropsuit, and if you don't go that specific path you don't stand a chance.
The shotgun/scout combo seems like a good idea right? I mean you get to be super fast, run up into a person's face, and still be super powerful. Has anyone ever though about a type II assault class with shield or damage mods and a sprint module? How about a type II logi with even faster sprinting from the extra low powered slot?
It's like even with the amount of various weapons available to players, there are only certain ways players will actually play the game, which saddens me. |

It's not coming. This is it apparently. I'm shocked we have more assault rifles than maps atm. |

Needs moar teemwerk.
More exotic builds should become more common as everybody squads up. Blueberries aren't going to give up the basics that give them an edge in 1v1 fights unless they find something exploitable. |

This is by and large true of any game with online multiplayer. Most of it is down to players themselves sticking with known successful builds or fittings..
There are plenty of individuals that break the mold and are unstoppable with idiosyncratic fittings.
But these things go in waves and trends and fault lines and paradigm shifts take time to develop. Look at the evolution of the laser. Players used to scoff. Then they started to started using them more and more. THen they began to cry out that the laser needed a nerf.
Your ideas for different iterations of the basic types of stuff we have now are interesting, and hopefully CCP can offer some of those tweaks with different racial varieties of the drop suits, weapons, etc.
But even with perfect imbalance balancing dynamic balance and free will people usually tend to run what is seen as the FTW weapons and gear. And there is nothing anyone can do to make a vast number of people take risks and maybe learn to get good with some stuff that might seem a little out of the box at first glance.

Some developers use waterfall, others use agile methods.
CCP uses the geological (or sometimes glacial) methodology.
When your building mountains, its gonna take a few million years.

Some of you people really need to play EVE. This is nothing new. CCP promises a lot. They very rarely deliver a lot.
CCP development cycle:
1) Show something awesome at Fanfest 2) Iterate it for a year (or two or three or four) 3) Release something that is 1/10th as cool as what was shown at Fanfest. 4) Ignore released content for another year (or two or three or four) while you develop the next half-finished feature, then go back for bandaid passes on the original! 5) Rinse and repeat!
The above has worked with EVE because it has no real competition, there are no other sandbox space based MMOs that have directly tried to compete with it.
FPS? They're a dime a dozen, and most of the "features" that are supposed to make DUST more than just an FPS seem to be nowhere in sight. This should be interesting. |

ATM, the militia shottie kills you. If you run proto suits though, the militia shottie bounces off you. Then you laugh and shank the loser in the face.
several minutes later
Proto shottie rips you apart.
^point. TIME MAN TIME! Each roll has its benefits. Just wait a bit. RIght now, everything is equal. 2 months from now, it won't be. |

I like to be a realist, it makes the fall down that much less painful. |
