Now that some time has passed since the topic was brought up, I'd like to reintroduce the idea of... Vehicle Shield Discharge!
Sometimes you just can't get up the speed needed to KO that guy you are trying to hit with your LAV for whatever reason. Sometimes you drive your LAV over a hill and are suddenly stuck in an area you can't back out of with 3 guys with AR's pointed right at your head.
I propose a shield discharge option for the driver of LAV's. Discharge your shields to damage all enemies within say 2 -3 meters of your vehicle to deal damage based on the total amount of shields you discharged. You'd only be able to do it if you have at least 1/4 shields and you'd have to wait for your shields to recharge to at least 90% before being able to do a second blast.
This would obviously leave you even more exposed than you normally are in an LAV, and this would also have to do a certain amount of damage to your LAV's armor as well, so there is a down side to make up for this advantage, and the amount of damage to both enemies and your vehicle can be based on the amount of shields you have remaining.
Since shields take a bit to recharge (and since this causes armor damage as well) it can't readily be overused or abused, even with really great rechargers and regenerators on your LAV, and it will give people a great reason to use LAV's as more than just drive and ditch taxi's. LAV suicide runs anyone? Build a low armor, high shield LAV and launch into the center of a mass of enemies, and as they dodge your LAV you pop off a blast of shield energy in all directions that kills everyone including yourself!
This will also give LAV drivers a chance to get kills more easily instead of having to rely on the turret operator or getting lucky enough to spot an enemy in good ramming position with enough distance to build up speed. Not that crushing enemies (... and occasionally blue dots
) isn't fun or not doable, but this would add a LOT of utility to LAV's in general.
And to ugg reset, yes, you did post on the original version of this post long, long ago. And yes, I was the OP just under a different name at the time. That thread was locked WAAAY back, I thought it might catch more wind now that the audience on the forums is larger.
