So the game switches servers and resets our closed beta characters back to their starting point in a few hours. Since this is the last reset (supposedly), my thought is why isn't the open beta simply the actual release of the game? Closed beta players are already going to get a head start on SP and ISK grinding between January 10th and January 22nd, when the open beta is scheduled to begin. Then everyone in the "open beta" will get another head start powering up their characters until the game is "ofically released".
Being that the game is free to play in the first place, I just don't get the whole point of an open beta at this point..... |

It would give reviewers the permission to review it as the full game and not Dust 514 (Beta), along with its various problems, it would also mean its released unfinished. CCP aren't really the kind of Devs that like doing that. |

hey, if CCP wants to call it an open beta period let them. as long as they aren't dumb enough to do a stealth reset, I'm fine with them calling it an open beta. after all, would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? not to mention they might be able to use this title to prevent problems such as people saying it should be still in beta... |

if you dig around the menus and store, there are still some empty sections. it won't an Official Release until those are done.
also, if you want matchmaking to work, you'll want a diverse group of skill points. you need groups of people with high SP and groups with low SP. |

Yeah, I understand the logic behind the ability for CCP to say "You cannot review our game yet, it is still in beta form. If you have any complaints against Dust 514, we must remind you of our 'Work in Prograss' clause." But the fact that there won't be another reset when the game goes from open beta to final release baffles me. This means beta players will get a fairly large advantage when the game is finally released and advertised to the public at large. (Unless of course CCP is forging ahead with the latest build's nerfing of purchased equipment and godlike buffing of all militia gear. )
Now, as a player of this game currently I'm elated; otherwise I might just put off playing the open beta entirely due to the fact that in essence, I would be levelling up my character for "nothing" for the second time and be burnt out on the whole thing when release day eventually comes.
But as someone completely ignorant of the closed OR open betas who stumbles upon this game on release day, I would be VERY pissed, and likely to just say, "The hell with that!" And I'm also a bit trepidacious at this point about just how powerful militia gear will ulitmately be and how useless real equipment and skill progression is leaning towards. |

Not really the last reset, it's the last planned reset and that's a difference not only in semantics ;) If some game breaking stuff occurs all of our SP can be easily reverted, some stats can reset and so on. Also the mechanics will be tweaked during the open beta, just like there have been changes before, maybe just not so drastic. After the official release usually only cosmetic changes are applied... |

Eve Online runs into people like that on a daily basis. They come in, they get confused, and get out. Nothing out of the ordinary about that in New Eden. And please keep in mind that Eve Online is not really finished at all. If you ever read or played about the game, capsuleers still have the infamous 'door' that never opens in their captains quarters.
http://katahu.deviantart.com/art/The-Infamous-door-283891386?q=gallery%3Akatahu%2F31808928&qo=9
That door was suppose to lead capsuleers to other places like corporate board rooms, market places, etc. back in 2011. But no, we got stuck in a garage-sized room. And that's not the extent of it. There have been tons of flying-in-space issues that haven't been resolved before Retribution arrived just late last year. UI issues, ship tier imbalances, crime watch loopholes, bounty hunting problems, broken war declaration mechanics, faction warfare imbalances, etc. |

No. The AUR and event rewards will only be released this one final time and that is when we finish the move to TQ tomorrow. The Devs said there will not be any more resets after this.
After this, spend your AUR and rewards wisely for you will never see them again after you spend them. |

Open beta is more like stressing a server in big numbers. That has been done in many open betas. Close beta is more like limited in numbers of players. Open beta is like unlimited numbers. |

Its probably never going to leave open beta. Kinda like how EVE is still a beta, or at least called a beta. Remember that we're doing something thats never been done before and this whole thing is a test to see if this system will work. |

I hate to keep on repeating what other people say. So this is my understanding:
The "Last" reset is tomorrow. Will there be a reset for the actual game release?
It is an open beta, not the actual release. Will most/all the game be available? I have only been playing a week or so, I imagin there is a lot more to the game than two modes.

There is not any kind of "advantage" between "Open Beta players" and players that get the game after the "Official Release" because is an "Open Beta". Anyone can play the game. If you don't want to play it now, ok, it's your decission |

This game is still not the finished product, still tons of bugs and they also said that they still plan to release more weapons let alone all the extra new mechanics this new version will bring. There is always something known as teathing problems that may occur when something new is brought out. But hot fixes and such seem to fix them. |

It's an analogy that some people use because (much like with Dust) CCP will never be finished with EVE, always improving and expanding it - like 'normal' developers do when their games are in beta. |

Well unlike traditional MMOs which when they do their updates its usually class fixes, new mobs, new raid, new places ect ect.
Eve goes in, GUTS half the game and replaces it with new crap that sometimes work or doesn't work on the same level most MMOs beta with. |

This is still not the final build - no where near it. They are getting closer, but take a look at the bugs that are still out there. CCP still has quite a bit of work to do. I'm glad they are doing it - and taking the time to do it right. |

Getting corporations situated and RECRUITING is a big part of the 10 - 21 wait. Can you imagine newbs rage-quitting after a few minutes in Dust? Having the player corps in place is a safety net move by CCP to keep players in long enough to get hooked. |
