More recoil needs to be added to them to discourage long range use of them, and the amount of damage they do needs to be decreased. The fact that the default gun is basically the most powerful gun in the game, decreases peoples want for trying out new weapons and going through the process of ranking up its stats to make it a good weapons choice, while the assault rifle come ready to kill a ton of people right out of the box. For example, I really really like the laser rifle. Is spent a week trying to upgrade it, trying to make it a longer range weapon, but people using assault rifles had a clear advantage over me as they could fire just as far, just as easily, with out having to invest any time with skill points. Once I realized this, I just went back to the assault rifle. I really want to use the other types of weapons, but honestly, why bother when assault rifles are already so good. The only other weapon worth using is the heavy chain gun. The shotgun is really good at close range, but I am finding that often times people using assault rifles can kill me just as easy up close as I can. I guess this is really a balancing issue, and assuallt rifles are honestly way better then they should be, for costing as little as they do.
They've been nerfed heavily before chrome they shot in absolute straight lines, had scopes and no recoil they were easy kill guns. Now they aren't as easy to use as with the iron sights and the recoil on them lining up takes a bit longer and after about 3 seconds of sustained fire the barrel really starts dancing and you won't hit much if you don't stop shooting. As for the LR, it's made to be used on people running out on open ground. I can easily take out AR users with my LR but you have to be:
A) At the right distance as up close LR's are useless as it's too hard to track someone with the beam. B) You have to keep the beam on them for it's power to increase and really after 3 seconds on anything but a heavy it's dead. C) In some sort of advantageous ground if you're trying to take on someone with an AR and you're both on open ground you're most likely going to lose.
And you're wrong on the range count those you fought will have invested in range because I've had AR users shooting at me while I was on top of the hill and I mowed them down with my LR and their bullets couldn't touch me and I only had light weapon sharp shooter I trained at the time.
Lets be honest, the assault rifle in game and in real life is pretty much the most standardly used because of it's versatility to respond to alot of different situations. Also you have to skill yourself and play to suit your weapon you can't run around like you would with an AR if you're using a LR because you will die. You have to play stealthier and or faster with a Shotty because you have to be close to kill someone. The AR is the bread and butter of the infantry unit and thats why alot of people skill into them. They are your basic almost all range weapon, good accuracy, moderate damage, good ROF and few catches to how they operate. HMG's have to spin up, shottys and SMG's are close range only, MD's and LR's are situational they are more denial weapons than run around rambo style weapons, snipers are super long range, FG's tank destroyers, swarms again AV and pistols are mid - short range. From that list I think it's pretty obvious that the AR has little competition in it's field at least until they bring in new weapons and thats why we use them most of all simple point and shoot weapons. |
