Yeah, I know, I know. Split-screen lends itself to a mass of random & terrible players, it cuts down on the effectiveness of the primary player (or alternately gives unfair advantage to the primary player), yada yada yada. However:
1) All major FPS games have it. Logically, that's no reason to put in in Dust, but it's a lot easier to grow a player base via "I played this with my friend on his PS3 so now I want it too" as opposed to "I *watched* my friend play Dust on his PS3 so..."
2) It can be done without (major) effect to the primary player's stats. Assuming the primary player, while hosting other split-screen players, provides the other local players' gear (along with providing a base for all their skill levels), the primary player should then be the only one to receive SP & ISK at the end of the match. I could hear an argument for the primary player of a split-screen match to receive higher ISK shares, but (personally) I'd be against it. You bring in noobs, they're your responsibility. Additionally, you have the potential advantage of a partial or full squad *in your living room*; on the other hand, you could just bring in more meat to grow an enemy's K/D ratio while losing the ISK to equip them--(I've heard rumors of other PS3 games that allow multiple PSN accounts logged on to multiplayer at the same time, but I don't have any first hand experience of it and can't speak to that).
I've got more reasons, but it's late in my time zone and I've been playing Dust all night. More later, feel free to shoot holes in the argument |

I am against this. I cound maybe see merit to this if Dust weren't a free to play game. Your entire argument about bringing more people into the game goes down the drain when you consider it costs them nothing to try Dust.
Another matter is the very nature of Dust. It's an online-only MMO. With such a game there is no room, need or excuse for local-only players or "guest" accounts. If someone wants to play he can go to his friend's house and log in using his own PSN account. |

I see why people are against this, but i would really like this.
The Gf isnt really in to games but she really likes games we can play together like CO-OP missions or online (the only reason i bought and play COD)
we have 3 character slots i dont see why we cant use a couple at the same time.
Also CCP i would be willing to pay for this, merc pack/Aurum purchase ? |

No thanks. I hate the idea of splitscreen in a MMO, pretty sure we had a topic a while back explaining why we shouldn't bother with splitscreen for DUST. |

I wish it had Split Screen.
My wife and I are very excited about DUST. But we both can't play together like we can other online MMO's. For EVE we can sit next to each other with laptops and play. But for DUST it requires a television and PS3. So unless I want to haul a second TV into the room and buy a second PS3 (who needs two?) we can't both play together.
Split Screen, where we both logged into our separate PSN logins and had separate accounts, would be awesome. But since I am assuming it won't happen anytime soon I just need to hope that a PC release comes out so we can play together. |

It would be good if both would require a seperate PSN account and both earn what they would get normally. But just like this and no SP or ISK bonus to the host or playing with the hosts stuff and skills.
@Severus: There won-Št be a PC version. But one of you could play DUST while the other one supports him on EVE. |

Split-skreen is very important tool, because as said before it needs another ps3 and tv to play together...:( For those who is against it: why? If you don't want this tool, then jast don't use it! And it won't hart you:) |

If a friend wants to try it it takes all of 10 minutes for them to sign into PSN and make their own account (for free). The only problem SS should solve is two people playing at once because the idea of buying two separate PS3's (for a free game) is just crazy.
And there will be a PC version, someday, CCP has hinted as much (hence KB/M support). It's just that the coding required for console games is different than for PC games - so they are focusing on console first. Once DUST is out of the red I have a good feeling they'll port it over to PC.

But before this happens the PS4 comes out, you buy one and another TV and one plays on the PS3 while the other one on the PS4 ;) |

My wife thought this was silly until I showed her how much she spent on the recent Steam sales / Cyber Monday... a used PS3 is a steal compared to that - especially for a game we'll play together a lot.
I just wish there was Split Screen so I didn't have to go buy a second PS3 / TV combo to play a MMO (IE: Social Game) with my wife.

and do you enjoy caviar at lunch? Not everyone can afford 1 playstation with todays economic climate let alone 2.
I think split would be a good idea for Dust as it will also people to introduce their friend to Dust before they invest in new hardware.
My only question is how it would work with the profile system? Currently, your characters are assigned to your PSN account so you would not be able to run 2 profile at the same time. You could allow for 2 people to play on 2 different characters from the same account but this somewhat distracts from the MMO part of the game.
Nevertheless, I think it is something that should be considered as it would inherently increase the number of people playing Dust at any given time which would allow for more variety with the devlopment of the game and it provides a strong advertisment. |

This suggestion ha two components to it: feasibility and practicality.
SS is possible, even in skill/exp based games. Uncharted 3's multiplayer system supported this. The second player was tied to the first where matchmaking was concerned - if I was on one side of the battle, my brother would be on the same side. My brother could even link his PSN account to the character he was using. I'm not sure if the PSN account could be accessed if it wasn't local to the PS3, but it was possible in any event.
As to the practicality, this is also doable, considering we take care when implementing it. The hosting character should not reciece any ISK or SP boosts - having someone who you can talk and strategize with at your side is bonus enough. Secondly, the secon player should either be a guest player, which will be erased hen the PS3 shuts down, or be able to use their PSN info to sign into their character. This aspect of Dust would give it the feeling of mobility. Dust can be everyone your friends are.
Done right, I think this could be a wonderful idea. +1 to the op.Take care, PS |

Once DUST is out of the red I have a good feeling they'll port it over to PC. CCP decided to expand the EVE universe to people outside the PC world. They decided this BEFORE they decided to make a FPS. Go to CCP's channel and watch the videos. They tell you this. They tossed around the idea of porting EVE to the consoles, instead ofn++ RTS they made a FPS EVE for consoles (Dust 514).The game won't be released to PC in the foreseeable future because CCP, has an exclusive contract with Sony. They invested pretty much into this game and advertise it heavily, also they are adding keyboard and mouse because many people asked for it. |

Just do it like CoD does it for years. There you log in with your PSN account and you have just your stuff. Also you get what you earned in battle.

i dont think you can do it like COD as the major point of this game is that when you die you lose your stuff if your "guest" can just magically get stuff this will ruin the game and conversely if the person was stuck with militia items this will be pointless as well
I guess one way to get around this (thinking as i type) is to copy the skill points of the main and then you use up their suits when they die, guess this could work, but kinda limits people to have similar roles, which wouldn't work for me and my GF as i loving running in the thick of it while she is a campy sniper ******

Sounds like more experienced players then myself can vouch for a second player's ability to log in on their own PSN account when they play split-screen in other games, which I say is ideal (compared to the kinda goofy ideas in my first post). The big hurdle to that, though, is whether CCP stores Profile / Character info locally or remotely :-/ |

I just don't like it for DUST. Just because all the other games do doesn't mean DUST should have it as well. Besides, with all the information displayed for your use, it would be a hindrance to the players because the information then becomes too small to read or too cluttered. Eve players are able to run two accounts on one computer but that is because they are on a computer where one can alt tab between windows in a point to point environment. DUST is nothing like that. |

@Maken, Fair point, Dust shouldn't try for certain features just because all other games have them (I probably could have said that better before). As for smaller information on the screen, I'd gladly accept that hindrance in order to play this game with my friends (the vast majority of which don't own PS3's, only Xbox or Wii). |

In EVE it's called sandboxing; they use programs to run two sperate games given the fact that each game has it's own account to log into. They need to pay for two accounts or more to run at the same time.
DUST is part of this same universe. The last thing the server needs is a heavy load of unknown guess filling up the server and not really helping out the whole. DUST is free to play, meaning anyone can pick it up and play if they want.
This isn't a "fun, gun, and run" game. You are now playing with people that pay money to play the other game we are connected to. If your going to mess it up down here, your going to mess it up there, and that won't be a whole lot of fun since half the game is play through them (on release).
No on SS, that belongs in some mainstream FPS game. Not every feature of every FPS needs to be in every game that has FPS elements. |

Dust will not be free to play, after the beta both Sony and CPP will be looking to recoup their investment don't you think. By the way when did you last buy a PLEX with real money? Split screen has more merit than pitfalls. Done carefully it will bring more players to Dust, and maybe keep some of the Beta players who don't want to pay a fee. Yes beer and peanuts go with a FPS, and conversation, and social interaction it is easier to punch the guy who messes up if he is in the same room, and if a noob explain what went wrong. Just a thought and my support for a missing feature in a good game
