Making it so that just sitting in a match earns you SP... I'm ok with, since everyone earns it and you earn even more on top of that by doing stuff to earn WP, which = even more war points. Even the daily SP reset would work well with a tweak. Instead of starting every day with your normal SP gain, and then being capped. (which as many have said, makes you not care to play after you hit it) How about CCP implement a "happy hour" bonus for the first hour of play. Give players 3x SP bonus for the first hour. Then, those who can only play for a short while are happy bc they earn a ton of SP, AND "no-lifers" are happy bc their 12 hour grinding per day is still netting them a reward. It still allows you to front load SP, but also keeps rewarding players who WANT to play for 12hours.
I understand the intention of wanting to give players who cant spend tons of hours gaming, a shot at an even playing field (in terms of character progression) BUT, you cant PUNISH the players that spend 10 hours gaming either. |

The flaw in your plan is this... after 4-6 games you hit the daily cap, wouldnt need a happy hour. (yes I stole it Sentient, so what) |

You just earn normal sp (instead of triple) |

IMO, the real losers are the players who can't play everyday. there should be a daily cap that rolls over unused SP, to the next day. Which in turn resets weekly. As it stands, hardcore players still have the advantage. While players with real responsibilities, have no means to play catch up. |

People who invest more time should receive more reward. As long as I can still get around and make a meaningful contribution to my team, that just doesn't bother me.

Couldn't agree more. I don't know how to make it equal for everyone, but this current SP system is painstakingly dire and boring. |

I vote for:
1) Giving slightly higher passive SP 2) No active SP cap 3) Giving lower active SP rewards (more seconds in battle per SP and more war points per SP) 4) A happy hour system where first hour you log in is 3x SP
- Happy hour matches should reward roughly 4k - 7k in SP (depending on performance could be higher or lower) - Regular non happy hour matches should reward 1k - 2k in SP (depending on performance)
- Your happy hour can rollover at a 50% reduction for a maximum 5 hours. So if you do not player for 3 days, your next happy hour is your 1 daily happy hour plus 50% of the 3 days you missed (50% of 3 hours is 1.5 hours) so your happy hour is 2.5 hours. The maximum would be a 10 day roll over so if someone did not play for over 10 days (11 days, 30 days, 365 days...doesn't matter), the next time they logged in, they would get 1 daily happy hour plus 5 rollover happy hours for 6 total happy hours.
I feel this would allow grinders to still feel accomplished but also allow for those who don't get to play frequently to feel that when to do login, they are making up ground on grinders. But it also encourages people to login everyday for 100% of 1 happy hour or at least once every 10 days for 50% of happy hours)

I like this idea a lot.

I do like this as a better mechanic as well. |

After further thought, i'd be ok with the current system... if the SP decay stopped at like 20%. Instead of going to zero, ppl would still get 20% of original SP for grinding the crap out of this game. |

CCP wants to limit progression and that means a hard cap, no way around it. At some point you will have "no reason to play" if your only motivation is SP gain. That won't change because it's CCP's core requirement.
The only thing that is open to change is the implementation details:
- cap time period - roll over or lack thereof - what actions gain "active" points
Shorter cap periods yield more frequent but shorter periods of no SP reward. Shorter rollover windows create pressure to play more frequently. Rolling windows are more fair than fixed windows. Inactive "active" points allow AFK SP farming while truly active points encourage participation.
So, how would you want to set all these variables to encourage the greatest amount of abuse?
1) A short daily cap 2) No rollover 3) Reward time in match over WP's earned
That creates a huge pressure to farm and offers an trivially easy method.
Know that you won't have time to play tomorrow due to other obligations? Queue up a Skirmish match upon waking and another before you leave for work. Do it again upon getting home from work and again after dinner. Done.
Of course you would rather play, and you do given the time. This is just your fallback plan to keep up when life intrudes.
How would you encourage play and satisfy those who don't want to go long periods without SP?
1) A short daily cap 2) rollover unearned points 3) have at least a seven day window 4) reward actions more than time spent.
The window would eliminate the problem of a fixed weekly schedule combined with the daily cap. A player with time early in the week but not later would miss out on several days reward with a Sunday night reset combined with a daily cap (and the same happens for someone with any fixed reset). This dramatically reduces the pressure to farm.
It would also reduce the practicality of AFK farming.
This is not rocket science.
