Why not just have the vehicle get damaged too? Makes it so that a LAV driver can run down someone when the opportunity presents itself but doing it more than once, in quick succession, is suicidal.
Reasoning: Ever hit a deer on the road with your truck? It will completely decimate your front end and fly up into the windshield. Now remember that even the lightest suit, Scout, is several hundred pounds of mechanized metal built to withstand at least a few rounds of superheated plasma fire. Assaults weigh a ton and Heavys weigh multiple tons.
A LAV should take light damage when it runs down a Scout. Moderate damage when it runs down an Assault / Logi. And extreme damage when it runs down a Heavy.
That's realistic and doesn't remove "Road Kills" but does balance them. |

With that info, an LAV would not get blown up by hitting a heavy. That would be ridiculous.
And if you think your dropsuit is top of the line tech stuff, so is my LAV. Wouldn't make sense to send a Honda Civic against someone who falls from skies wearing armor.
If you all are so angry about Militia LAVs, why not destroy them? Bonus WP, they blow up like tissues, and teach the nub not to use them again. Don't tell me it's too hard or you don't have the right fitting. Because I know you can play Matador and have them crash.
You make a good point. Your proto LAV should take a lot less damage than a militia LAV. So lets make it simple. Whatever damage is dealt to the merc resulting in a "Roadkill" is also done to the LAV. So running down a Heavy will deal all their shield + armor health in damage to the LAV. That should cause extreme damage to a Militia LAV (if not one shot it) and moderate to light damage to a well tanked proto LAV.
It's realistic, supported by physics (equal damage via force), and will ensure that just running down people is no longer as simple (due to said damage).
