Okay so in EVE passive shield tank is a viable option, but is it true for dust? With a lack of rigs and low slot shield regens it doesn't appear so. 30 hp/s or so just isn't enough for 8-9k shield hp. Also, considering rails and forges make resistance modules barely worth it, and the fact that shields don't regenerate when taking damage, that large hp pool goes fast.
What I'm most curious about is the shield extenders. Does having more hp entitle you to faster regen? This is true in EVE, correct? Shield tanking really seems gimped to me. Any thoughts?

As someone who ran a dedicated av build for all of codex, I can say with confidence that a shield tank is far more formidable than armour. Armour tanks are more about specialisations than withstanding punishment. |

I agree that an active shield tank is decent. I'm saying a passive one is N/A. I'm curious if anyone's had any success. |

I've found that passive tanking isn't really viable *usually*. The few times I've had success with it were several builds ago where I stacked on the -25% resistance mods and Shield Rechargers, and then put Nanofibers in the low slots. The tank hauled ass and could get out of a situation quickly, however if you did take a lot of damage you needed a safe place to hide while your shields recharged, and in small maps or when a dropship is present, it became very difficult to do that.
In other words, back then it was an OK option some of the time, but not the best in most situations. Now with the reduced resistance modules and the low base regen of the shield tanks, I'd have to say passive tanking is really not a viable option.
Also Chunky Munkey, I have to say normally I completely agree with you in that shield tanks have traditionally been better in Dust, but for whatever reason in this build I have had FAR better success with the armor tanks despite the fact that everyone else seems to use shield. Not really sure why, but that's from my experience. Plus as it stands (and I think this is what you were getting at) since Blasters seem to be the weapon of choice this build, Armor tanks have a much higher damage potential than shield tanks in the case of Marauders. Plus it just feels wrong putting that big green blaster on a Caldari tank lol |

I enjoy Blasters on my Sica Militia Shield Tanks very much. The speed of shield tank vs armor tanks while manouvering the map is very very nice and can often safe your ass from e.g. forge / av nades. Even if I burn trough 2 Sicas a match, I can end it with a profit.. In Tank vs Tank battles, Shield or Amror doesnt imho matter. The biggest rail with the most dmg modifiers wins anyways |

Shield tanks get eatin by armor tanks unless they run and keep their distance. My madruger eats sagaris easily if itsleft without support. Shield tanks cant withstand as much punishment. Armor tanks have higher health overall. Not to menion forge guns do reduced damage.
Lasers eat shields too, making shield tanks even worse off. Once your shield is gone it takes very little to destroy you. |

Shield tanks are easier to solo with since their speed is alot better and passive regen on their main tank. Since missiles are meh ive seen more armor rollin around as well
As for AV Shields have it a bit easier imo. Both FGers and Lasers and Flux users need to put themselves at more risk than someone using lock-on lolswarms and homing AV nades and since armor is slower its harder to get armor out a tough spot than shields.
IMO armor tanking takes more skill, u have alot more active mods to manage while u have to be more aware of ur surroundings so u dont get ambushed |

For armour tanking, it's not only the high health that helps survival, but the sheer effectiveness of armour reps. They repair an absolute ton of damage back. And it's quite possible to fit twin reps and still have room for a decent plate for HP buffer.
Armour tanking does require more attention to your mods and your surroundings but it does result in a tougher vehicle to take down if handled right. |

If they add drake style passive tank the game breaks. there really is no way to get around it. because the AV in this game as well as tank turrets are in no way rigged to dish out the amount of punishment.
For you dusties with no reference: a drake is a shield tanked battlecruisers capable of taking the combined fire of anywhere up to twenty or more NPC ships simultaneously without kissing armor. and of the twenty eight can be battleships. (battleships can hit much harder) Drakes are also frequently called to service as baitships. lure in a small fleet, let em pound you and hotdrop them. |

Passive is non existant
I can fit on 10k of shields if i wanted to but after a few hits and its down to 4k it will take forever to get back upto 10k |
