Sentient Archon wrote:Definition of a Sniper ;- A sniper is a highly trained marksman who operates alone, in a pair, or a team who maintain close visual contact with the enemy and engages targets from concealed positions or physical distances exceeding the detection capabilities of the enemy personnel, without being detected. These sniper teams operate independently, with little combat asset support from their parent units.
Snipers are meant to cause confusion in the enemy ranks. If any enemy is pushing forward snipers are supposed to push them back. It is supposed to make the enmy think and gues where you are. A good sniper is also well hidden. He is supposed to make the enmy guess his/her position and try and hunt them down. Snipers are also supposed to communicate enemy movements for instance if an enemy is pulling in a tank and how much shield/armor that tank has.
This effectiveness of the sniper is lost when he is running and gunning. It also makes him an easy target. Although this may be fun its not using the snipers full potential. Its the game thing as having a heavy sniping. Totally wasteful.
Sniper across the map takes skill. You have to lead your shots. Anyone who goes 15 kills with a sniper rifle across the map is a good sniper. Fine smart guy technically it's called a designated marksman
And the only leading you have to do is to compensate for lag and the distance you have to lead remains constant no matter the range, I really don't think traditional sniping takes skill atm. Not until they add ballistics instead of hit-scan for snipers.
Also would like to mention that the effectiveness of sniping from a vantage point is usually overrated and probably won't serve an effective purpose until we get larger maps. You can go 40-0 sniping from a mountain top and your team can still suffer horribly. Usually another man on the ground makes more of a difference, I have tested it over and over again. |

OK let me work my magic here
Sentient Archon wrote:Sniping in this game is broken. In all the FPS games I have played sniping is generally an OHK. Here it is not unless you line up a headshot. Generally its 2 shots. Unless you are shooting at someone standing still, you have to anticipate the players movements. First off I hope you don't think that sniping is broken simply because you can't OHK people without a headshot. Before they nerfed the skill bonuses for sniping one complex damage mod on an ishukeone could OHK most suits and frankly it was insanely OP and easy. Where the damage is at right now is fine imo, snipers should have to 2 shot people with a body shot unless they fit enough complex damage mods and risk being downed in one shot themselves.
Sentient Archon wrote:With that said sniping across maps is generally 400 ms or more. Its not only lag and distance that you have to compenstate over here but also sensitivity of the controller. That's in the gaming world. In the real world there are factors such as wind speed, your location, breathing, mounts, distance to your target, type of gunpowder used and the earths magnetic field. Yeah I have to adjust my sensativity at times depending on the distance and it can be annoying, but I adapt and so can others. Also while yes the factors to consider with real life sniping are insane and even somewhat of an art imo I don't know why you bothered comparing it to a video game.
Sentient Archon wrote:There also other factors to consider such as dropsuit loadouts and enemy skill levels. Have you ever tried to snipe a dude with his proto gear on and kill him? How many snipers in this game can say that they have killed experienced players in proto gear? It would take a minimum of 3 rounds to take someone like that out. Now please tell me that's easy and anyone can do it? I have eaten many protosuits with my sniper and experienced players, including protobear corpmates, it's definitely more of a challenge because they have a tendency to move around alot and tank their suits but it's far from impossible.
Sentient Archon wrote:And how is a sniper usefull if he is in he middle of the battle and cant spot the battle ground. How can he relate to his team that there are 5 red dots heading towards A? You may as well put an AR and move forward in the field.Snipers are meant to cause havoc in the enemy lines. Divide and conqour. Confuse and confound. These are a snipers themes. Well right now due to the small maps it's very easy to get intel on the ground with the network of eyes you can work off of. Also I like the sniper over a generic AR, besides having an easier time countering other snipers it has other advantages as well
When we get larger maps I feel there will be more use for traditional sniping.
Sentient Archon wrote:With that said there are scrub snipers out in the game. Barring Gem Cutter I yet have to see a really good sniper in this game. There are a few average snipers out there and I would put the ones that atleast get the kills. And then there are the scrub snipers that cant do anything for **** and who go 2-0, 3-0, 4-1. yes |

Forlorn Destrier wrote:I haven't sniped in the last two builds as I have been working to improve my gun game close up, but I can tell you that there are good snipers out there, I consistently went 15- or 20- and only 2 or 3 deaths previously. I remember one match where Sleepy and I went a combined 54-0 (he probably doesn't remember it, if he even remembers who I am).
That said, there are a lot of snipers that could use some work, there are some good ones, then there are a few great ones (Sleepy and Gem come to mind off the top of my head). Damn sorry man don't remember that particular match but I remember most people who have sniped me in the past. |
