agreed, please just let us hit active cap and move along. the diminishing returns is simply aggravating. after a certain point just let it run up on passive only.
A lot of people will keep playing after active cap hits, just for ISK. I am one of them. |

This character isn't doing as well as my others. I have been focusing on my pilot because the SP requirements are so steep and there is no support from CCP regarding an initial build.
However, I noticed that the pilot had started to accumulate a moderate amount of ISK. Now, I continue on after the SP cap to build ISK for all three. At least until they have a few million in the bank. The pilot is the only one that needs that kind of cash.
The ever diminishing cap does take the interest right out of the game though. I have often wondered if that is what "working as intended" means?

No, CCP does some things that are dumb on occasion, but they never do anything to decrease interest in the game deliberately. but basically for me the SP setup means I play for a few hours for two days, till I get less than 2k pre-boost SP then let the SP float on passive till wednesday.
three days if I want to active SP cap my alt |

I really cant understand the thinking sometimes when you can do better not playing the game versus playing the game. One of my clan mates kinda shocked me the other day and said you know what i think i should not play Dust514 for two weeks then i would have mad SP to progress in the game.
I went 9/0 the other day to get a whopping 1.5k SP, it made me just shut off the game after that round. There are to many bs skills that are required to enjoy Dust not to have a steady SP gain every round. |

I was told by support to get rid of the diminishing returns id have to contest it on forums so if you too do not like getting 300 sp per match after a match or lower you have to voice your opinion..... |

I have yet to play to the point where diminishing returns affects me. Honestly, I am not even sure how the mechanics work for it? I will say I have notice my ambush games I get around 10k sp, and my skirmish games get about 30k (I play a lot more ambush).
I think diminishing returns CAN be a good thing, but if some people are getting less than 2k SP per game... thats kinda ******. Not to sure how I would change it. Diminishing returns only if your constantly repeating the same mode of game, i.e. play both types of games. |

Couldn't agree more. With all of the available skills, nothing is more irritating than spending time on a game with basically no progress. I understand not everyone has the same amount of time to play, but why bog down everyone who does? If you are the type that only plays for a few hours on the weekend but you end up having extra time to play, you'll also get hit with the SP cap, making it less effective.
"The people who play the game more will have an advantage." Yes they will, like with most video games.
A better solution to the problem is to balance teams properly.
Either create matches with players all of the similar skill level, OR
Create matches with teams that both have experienced and inexperienced players, so the newbies can get their kills in also. For example: For a match, a team's overall skill level has to be within a certain range of the opposing team's skill level. Skill level could be a function of a players kill ratio and skill points, or however you would decide it.
Diminishing returns on SP is not the answer, I think it will put off a lot of people. |

The skill point gain from diminishing returns is not even worth playing the game. If it continues, I definitely will not continue playing this game with an average of 1k to 1.5k sp a match, that is just crazy. No wonder ccp says it will take you a lifetime to level up all the skills........... |

I think you are missing 2 things. 1) You are gaining sp eve when not playing, sp gained playing are bonus. 2) YOU SHOULD BE PLAYING TO HAVE FUN, NOT TO GRIND if you lose onterest only because you can't grind go play something else. |

noooo, most of us would rather just have the cap hit, then we can focus on ISK gains, the diminishing return thing is obnoxious. We're not suggesting eliminating the SP cap. We'd just rather not have to watch it steadily become more and more irrelevant

Every game needs a factor which motivates the players. In dust you only get better / stronger with SP, so it's kind of frustrating if you earn only arround 1k SP per game. SP earned while playing aren-¿t bonus, they are the reward for your performance. If performance and reward are not equal, players will leave Dust. It' s that simple. |

I don't mind the SP low reward, so long as I receive ISK.
There is nothing like having tons of SP and no isk. I've had times in previous builds when my SP was at 1mill, and my ISK was nill. Which meant that I couldn't buy skill books, and all that SP was worthless.
I prefer the current reward system. |

Well that situation would be akward as well. I think if dust is finally linked to eve, the main goal of the game will be to add a plus to your alliance. So SP will be more in the background. |

It's this or a hard cap. Without either, you'd be maxed out in very little time, and the rpg element of the game would be dead. It'd also create a massive gulf between hardcore players and casual regulars. |

SP is a motivational factor, very much for me as well.
But it's not the only one: - ISK (isk runs the world. Everything's about isk in the end!) - Protecting/gaining assets. Especially territory - Helping your corp/alliance - Tuning up kdr - Leaderboards - Have great pvp (entertainment value)
Looks like people here giving +1's didn't read other existing threads, here's a link to one with a very strong viewpoint on motivation: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=444029#post444029
Point being: If you get ALL the skill in the game in four months, then you TRULY have nothing to gain SP-wise! Think about that!!!
EDIT: Sorry the linked thread actually has gotten pretty terrible. Apologies. |

The system would be much less irritating if there weren't any diminishing returns (but the hard cap needs to stay, plus some kind of indication to show how far you are from the cap). |

Totally agree. Hard cap is absolutely necessary but the diminishing returns aren't. Why not add a graphical SP bar which visualize the SP progress per week? Maybe a green, yellow, red area? |
