Welcome to my alt pilot.
I only got under a month into this pilot effort. It was seriously depressing when the SP cap just jammed the brakes on progress when I needed more SP then my other two characters combined (2.5M and 1.5M). And neither of them are rolling in proto gear anyway. No respecing (curse you Borderlands, I love respecing).
But, set the goal: HAVs and DSs. DSs were first until this release. Now HAVs are. Which is a shame because they take the most SP to get going. If CCP was going to Nuke (not Nerf) a vehicle, could they have done it to the expensive one? But I hear they did, I just don't know how much. Regardless, now I have to go the high route.
The immediate goal is to survive while I build to my plan. Started with Weapons, AR, SMG (wasted) and some basic Electronics and Engineering. But I squeezed the first levels needed for DSs and HAVs. Seriously? LAVs have to be done in some fashion. Great, more distractions that are unnecessary and unwanted.
KDR (which I routinely ignore) is inching upwards. ISK in the bank, buying Militia HAV, DS and LAV. Buying vehicle Equipment and Modules. Setting goals for the next 150-175K of SP. Trying not to buy my way out of a jam with bumps for non-pilot skills. Just suffer through it.
How has my pilot made it so far? Run. To the next objective. When a HAV or DS needs a gunner. Jump out to hack even if it costs me my seat or my clone. Run Militia Logi suits for everything. Except for the Forge Gun in the Militia Heavy. And when running with noobberries, if they show any promise at all, run as a Logi Bro. Not enough slots to do Hive, Repair, Injector like I prefer but I have the combinations down if I can determine what they normally carry in the Equipment slot. I will not spend SP on a real Logi Suit. Even for three Equip slots. Use a Zero Cost Fit; Militia Assault suit with AR, Hive and Hack module when I don't care if these noobs survive. Die a lot. Kill some. Look for an open Gunner seat, always.
A little of everything is how to survive. Snipe when needed, run objectives even using a LAV to do them sometimes, practice with my DS when it is clear enough to try. Run a HAV when the map is good. The more noobs the better. They don't expect a militia HAV to have enough shields or armor to survive being rammed by a LAV.
I just don't expect to be as good as my Assault/Heavy or my Logi/Sniper. Ain't gonna happen.
But, piloting? Making progress, slow but progress nonetheless.
